You Know You Need to Stop Playing When....

...you get so frustrated and upset that you throw a chip across the room and make a dent in the wall.

Yeah, I'm kind of on the verge of a nervous breakdown right now, so I need to not play Poker. I cashed out everything online, spent my FPP's, and I even threw out my 2005 WSOP tapes.

I may or may not be selling a lot of my Poker books and DVD's soon, and I will let you guys know first in case anyone is interested.

Don't anyone worry about me, I'm not going to vanish suddenly, but I definitely need time away from the tables. Probably a lot of time, ever since a few things became abundantly clear to me today. See my blog for more details.

Sorry to hear that... eventhough i dont write very much, i always enjoyed reading your posts.

Dont make the error selling everything, just keep it in a box, and put that box in a place where you cant just grab in it...

Delete every data about poker that you have in your computer and let it be....

You will see that you will find your focus again... and probably you will come back much better than you left. But, as you said, sometimes its just better to take some time off...

sometimes time off is a good thing. some of you know that im a professional bowler.

I recently took about 3 months off, and when i started back up i won 3 tournaments in a row and had 7 perfect games.

Time off could help

I read your blog and I feel your pain. I am in kind of the same boat, but haven't quite started throwing things.

You are too good to quit forever unless you desire to do so. So, take off a full two weeks or so and then rationally think about what you want.

The worst thing you can do (IMO) is to make this decision right now when you are still emotional about it.

Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide. We will always be here.

There is a big difference between playing poker because you want to and playing because you are bored and want to kill time.

If you're ever going to play poker instead of work, you have to make it feel like a job, play on a schedule and stick to that, don't ever play more than you should, but play as much as you said you would and learn how to control your emotions.

You are probably best to get out of pokerstars, once I get enough FPPs for something rad I'll be moving somewhere else...

If you are going to be playing high volumes of hands, go to a rakeback site like Ultimate Bet, but if you are sticking to 3~ tables for <4 hours a day, all the 2+2ers say that Party Poker is the easiest site to make money at.. it does have the biggest player pool ever...

You'll have to figure out how to get money into it, but otherwise party is looking pretty good, I think thats where I'll go after PS.

Good luck turn prophet

I hope this is just en emotional downswing and not something permanent, take a good long break, get life sorted out, maybe look for a job or something - then when you are ready to come back to poker as a means of outsmarting your opponents and playing optimally, make it happen.

All the best to you sir, your posts are inspirational and I look up to you a lot

Follow your path. Be truth to your hart and you will find what you are looking for.

it is as simple as that. Don't ever do anything you do not enjoy. What is the point of sitting in front of a computer for hours if you do not like it?!

Take a break, go do some sport and some soul search.

We all know you were not on a good run, you are a good player that simply hit a bad patch. Poker doesn't matter.

Last thing, don't say never. Take it one day at a time and see what happens.

Good luck.

Danny

Playing the game is not all there is to poker. For every winner there’s a looser, for every game there’s an organization behind it, for every rake someone benefits. You obviously have a true understanding and passion for the game, don’t waste it, use it. Find the way, Good luck.
