0 to $1000 challenge.

Posted Sun Apr 01, 2007 10:32 am GMT by zeroswarm
I recieved a letter from party poker inviting me to play in a $10 000 freeroll.
I have exactly 0.00 in my account so I thought I'd set myself the challenge of going from 0 to $1000, just to see if I can actually do it.

The freeroll has just started and I'm about 300 chips up at present. There are about 2500 entries and it looks like the top 300 get paid so thats my target.
There are also 2 $250 "British" freerolls tonight which I have entered aswell. One is limit unfortunately, which I suck at, so my expectation is low for that one.
Anyhow, thats the challenge, I'll update on my progress later tonight.

Quick update...
Got knocked out of the limit tourney as was forcast but placed 247th in the main freeroll and netted $11 for my trouble. Smile

So I'm off and running having gone from zero to $11 at the first attempt. Cool

Might be a good idea, lol.
Just finished 142nd out of 1535 in the other British freeroll and netted a wopping 37 cents, Laughing .

Hardly worth the time but it all adds up or so they say.
Balance now $11.37 and climbing (very slowly Razz ).

I don't have the time to give massive MTT freerolls much of an effort these days but have no bankroll and would like to participate in a 0-1000 $ challenge myself. Does party have these types of freerolls often?

Posted Sun Apr 01, 2007 5:08 pm GMT by exit music
What's your plan now? I think getting from $11 to $200 will be harder than $200 to $1000

Posted Sun Apr 01, 2007 11:41 pm GMT by efram
Don't really have a plan Exit, just play free rolls until I get enough to grind out lower limits and sit n go's. Since I'm at zero now, its free roll city. My problem is time. I'm married (PW'd) and just bought a house so I don't often have 3+ hours to kill. I just have to be patient. Lst time I played real money I took 50 up to 350 in 3 months so once I get some bankroll started I feel I can grind away and at least make a go of it. We'll see.

Posted Mon Apr 02, 2007 1:10 pm GMT by zeroswarm
I took $5 of my huge $11.37 bankroll and started grinding the 0.02/0.04 tables. By the end of last night my bankroll had climbed to $12.75! Laughing

I was playing tighter than tight because I can hardly afford to lose at this stage. Even these tables with there tiny blinds are possibly too much for my bankroll at present, but this is the lowest stakes on party.
It was either that or $3 sng's. I prefer to play sng's but only having 4 buy in's isn't really enough at the moment.
My plan is to grind away at micro stakes cash tables until I have 10 buy in's for the $3 sng's.
I'm about to start now so I'll update my progress later tonight.

I'd be interested to see how someone else fares at this challenge so don't be shy if you want to have a go.

Well I'm now down to $8.11. Sad

Had a brutal start when I lost a $5 buy in. I called in with J 9 and the flop came 8 10 Q, so I flopped a straight. Ended up going all in on the turn and some guy called me with top pair and a flush draw. Needless to say he hit his flush and rivered my bankroll to hell!

Things didn't improve much for a while after that but a better run later saw me end up with $8.11.

Where to go from here? Confused

Buy-in for $2 at 4 .02/.04 tables and play for a couple hours, you should be able to run it up to $20 in no time.

8 into 20 thru short-stacked NL4. $20 spread over 4 NL10 tables turns into $50. Play a HU SnG for your BR, win, sit down with a hundo at a NL400 table and proceed to robusto... right?

Posted Tue Apr 03, 2007 9:29 am GMT by weirdofreek
Can I play also? Last night I played 3 freerolls busted on 1st shortly after the first break. Next 2 final table 8th and a 2nd grand total right now is $12.50.

I was gonna say it ends with 'online poker is rigged!' and other such outrageous claims made when some horrible play loses the roll but your way works too Laughing

but geno....

online poker IS rigged

Posted Tue Apr 03, 2007 1:53 pm GMT by zeroswarm
This isn't an online poker is rigged thread but I can well imagine going bust at any given moment.

Time to start day 3 of the challenge....Back to the old 0.02/0.04 tables with my 8 dollars.... Rolling Eyes

Go listen to Jesus Pod cast about making $10K out of $1 - though he doesn't talk much about it, it seems he always tried to buy max 5% of his stack. So when sitting with less, buy the min, dbl up and leave.

Might be a good idea.

I've finished the day back up to $12.52, so a little progress even if it doesn't feel like it.

Probably won't be able to play for the next day or two so I'll be resuming this little experiment probably friday.

I'm finding the micro limits quite interesting actually. It's certainly safer to simply sit tight and wait for hands but I've also found you can pick up a fair few pots by just being aggressive without the cards. Thats been slightly surprising to me given the low stakes involved.

Posted Tue Apr 03, 2007 4:30 pm GMT by exit music
Almost all micro limits players are tight passive or loose passive

Posted Fri Apr 06, 2007 5:02 pm GMT by zeroswarm
After more low low limits I'm standing at $16.61.
I guess thats my highest thus far so I'm not complaining.
It is hard work though....

Thats good going.
More 0.02/0.04 micro tabling for me tonight. I'm hoping to at least get up over the 20 dollar mark.

I'll report on progress later.

Posted Sat Apr 07, 2007 3:03 pm GMT by zeroswarm
Finished on $19.80.
Slow progress continues....

Quick update.
Balance now $28.69. Still on 0.02/0.04 nl.

Very nice going. That win already puts your bankroll higher than mine so you've kind of stolen a march on me. Crying
I haven't been able tp play for the last two days but am about to restart now. Need to definately break through the $30 barrier tonight if nothing else...

Posted Thu Apr 12, 2007 2:37 pm GMT by zeroswarm
Back down to $23.07.
Not quite sure how much of that was due to bad play on my behalf.
One thing I know is that AQ can cost you money even at micro stakes. Its fast becoming my new "hand from hell", replacing JJ as the worst hand in texas hold em!
Apart from a pair of nines it was the best hand I had and it cost me dearly.
Back to the drawing board....

Posted Thu Apr 12, 2007 4:25 pm GMT by efram
Yeah, I've lost a fair amount with AQ, A10 and JJ.
those types of hands can byte if misplayed.

I managed to win another $10+ last night so I'm pushing $50 now.
I seem to do better at .05/.10 vs .01/02
I think the super low stakes are so low I have trouble folding because it doesn't seem like I'm losing anything.
keep it up zero, Good luck.

Posted Thu Apr 12, 2007 7:08 pm GMT by zeroswarm
Down to 13 dollars 7 cents.
What would you expect from a drunken fool?

Don't wory , I'll get it back later.....

Posted Fri Apr 13, 2007 10:55 pm GMT by efram
doubled my roll with a first in a 5$ sit-n-go and a double up on on .05/.10 ring game.
keep pluggin away and maybe by end of year, *fingers crossed*
I might be close. Time will tell.
From zero to hero,
thats the goal anyway.

Posted Sun Apr 15, 2007 3:33 pm GMT by zeroswarm
Well I just checked my account and I have $3.37 left....Hmmm.
Couldn't possibly be anything to do with the fact that I was drunk when I last played could it? Rolling Eyes

Hey I wanna get in on this.

Donīt know if it counts, cause I didīnt win my initial money, I got $20 from PP after playing freerolls for quite some time without the big succes, only winning $1 or $2 once in a while.

But I made those $20 into $40 at 0.02/0.04 the first day of playing.

The second day I doubled up again to $80

The 3rd. day didīnt do anything

The 4th. day I made into $110 still playing at 0.02/0.04 now I have been staying at $100-$110 for some time. ( ran into a crazy guy that did some damage to the bankroll, he drawing me out some times ex. he won all-in preflop with J5 against my AA with board showing * * * 5 5 Sad )

My best run was Dec 2005 - Jan 2006 when I rolled $22 which Webby sent me at PS to $800. By the end of January it was all gone Very Happy

Sounds like a hard earned lesson in bankroll management

Had a good session yesterday, in 10 minutes I busted the 4 other guys at my table out when hitting straight, flush and full house, got paid of on all hands.

So now I am at $130

Posted Tue May 01, 2007 2:35 am GMT by steffend
It is still going towards the $1000, I am now at $230 but have been up to $270 but played like an idiot yesterday.

I moved up to the 0.05/0.10 $10 buy in, and finding it harder to make a profit here.

Posted Tue May 08, 2007 5:30 am GMT by steffend
I am back up to $270 after a 2 week period of bad play and bad running of cards. But now it goes forward again, I am playing 0,05/0,10.

How are you other guys doing?

Posted Thu May 24, 2007 6:40 pm GMT by efram
I've been up to 100 from my original 37.50 free roll cash, and down to all in with my last 1.45 Won that hand with A10 and got back up to 40, than back down to 8, sitting at 27.50 right now. Between bad beats and some bad play, I'm going nowhere fast, but still playing on my free roll cash so thats a bonus.

I hope to plug some leaks and get my roll up to where I don't have to grind at micro-micro stakes.

Posted Tue Jun 19, 2007 6:53 am GMT by steffend
Just an update.

Last I wrote I was up to $270

and then it went downhill fast due to some bad beats, bad bankroll management, and probably bad play, wich I was not aware of at the time. Took me about 3 days to loose it all.

so after being without bankroll for some time I know won $20 at a free-roll and will try to play decent this time and work my way up.

good luck,
ive been going up and down myself and also left with little
but i threw br out the window and just played mtts i enjoy since i'm off
to work in a month anyway

Posted Tue Jun 19, 2007 3:54 pm GMT by efram
I intentionally donked off all of my free-roll roll because I need to concentrate on workstudy to advance my career. As an addict, I don't have the will power to resist poker with money in my acct. So I lost it all figuring when I've passed my skills assesment at work in Sept, I will be off the study obligation and might be able to find some time. We'll see. Poker takes up too much of my time and there are many more important things for me to do. Like, mow the lawn, weed the garden, etc etc. I will continue to lurk here but 0-1000$ challenge is off for me until further notice.
good luck to those who are still in the hunt.

Ok, I gotta share this Smile

I am once again trying to get to $1000 without depositing, and after throwing my hard build partypoker bankroll away, I got $50 free at full tilt.

I have been slowly building it up to $150 but last night I took a big jump up to $340 because I won a $900 freeroll for danish players winning $190 the money are great, but I am so proud winnning my first larger mtt Smile ( 550 players )

I WON again so now my total bankroll are up to $900 I am so exited.

started with 1.75 on a transfer and was up to 471.00 at one point but just lost 50 because i didnt know how to fold good cards.

I also took out 60 and have lent about 15 to a friend so i "should" be over 500.
