say you have AK of spades. And the board comes up with rags with two spades. If this is like the crappy game I play in, where people call with craphands, do you call a medium size raise to chase the flush? What do you do if it misses?

1stly..... AKs should be raised preflop always! if someone calles it chances are they got A kicker or pocket pair (high pocket pair should prolly also re-raise but lets say it just got called)
2ndly..... we can be pretty sure if the large raise is called that we're either dealing with A kicker or pp with rags on the flop. depending on the size of the flop raise then you should know whether the person made a set or small pair or no help
3rdly..... If i got nut flush 1 runner draw on flop, then i'm raising anyways, so i'm actually glad the dude raised and am probally gonna call to the river.
4thly.... All of this is just generalisations tho and different circumstances call for different moves, but this is most likely moves in my opinion for the above scenario

Well, then you disengage after the flop if you get no help. Raising the AK is correct because a) it gets money in the pot and b)it shuts down people who are also on a draw. A or B are valid reason to raise, if you aren't always getting both . . . but the key is, don't get attached to the money you raised . . . cause if you have 8 people calling everything, if you don't have a pair or four to a straight or flush, you shouldn't turn.

So . . . after re-reading your post . . .

Yes.

ok he made a medium raise, and is likely to call any re-raise you make, i would say call his raise as you dont have the nuts yet
remember....... you have several outs here any A any K or any spade is favourite to be beating him at this point.
so by raising into you he is doing you a favour.
call his bet wait for the nuts, if it dont come lay it down.
i'm guessing tho that if you call the flop he wont raise 4th straat, if he does call it again, if you get no help on 5th then you can lay it if he raises, but i'm guessing he will be so busy wondering why the hell you been callling all this time that he wont raise that unless he gebuinely has something good.
