This is my new passive approach to this game.
I do not care about small pots.

So that said, hand 1 : I might not c-bet into 3 people. I often don't reraise this PF also. As played, this is an easy fold. He either have a bigger draw then you or already have you beaten. Fold.

Hand 2 : With 5 limpers and OOP I raise it more PF. Or again, I might just limp but not often (but then you need to be able to fold UI)
On this flop I might c-bet. Since it will fold any decent players small pairs. If I get called or any resistance I'm out of this hand without reads or without improving.

Hand 3 : I fold this PF. Even if it was suited I probably wont call. As played , its really player dependent does he fire again if you called and check the turn? probably not. So yeah, probably played fine.

Hand 4 : again, I might just fold this flop. The pot is not that big and your overs are very weak. Once called by 2 players, I'm defiantly done. If every one check, I might call a weak river bet. but I think we see real overs and a set here too often.

Hand 1: You got a sick # of callers PF. You have to raise a little more preflop, probably to around $10. As played, that is a terrible flop for C-betting, and yeah I fold to the raise.

Hand 2:

Go ahead and bet, the board paired, you are OOP and you have a backdoor draw. I'd make it $7-8 to see what happens. If someone nitty calls you and a couple of overcards fall on the turn+river you might be able to take this one away with a double/triple barrel bluff, but otherwise just one bet seems pretty reasonable.

Hand 3:

I like the check-call-bet-bet line for this hand, you probably could have sized your turn/river bets a little bigger to extract some more value, putting him on AK seems pretty reasonable to me, and he is a villain with a bigger than avg. stack. Betting $10 on the turn and $18~ on the river seems like it would yeild a similar result.

Hand 4:

Beware the out of position cold-caller. He knows his call doesn't even close the action between him+the PFRer, so I think he absolutely must have a monster hand here, I"m guessing he flopped a set. I personally don't even care about PRF dude anymore, I check-fold from the turn onward. You took your stab to see if your hand was any good, and the information you recieved tells you that a pair of 8s is worthless.

That's a great strategy if you like to project a nitty table image. If you fight for small pots, people will fight back for big pots. If you are playing against people with eyes, folding unless you have a set will gain you nothing, it's not 2003 anymore.

Don't mistake passive with nitty. In the hands above being aggressive will often get you burned. With 4 or 5 people seeing a flop, you have to be cautious.

#1: Raise to $10 or more, or don't raise at all, thats one reason why you got so many callers, as played you're getting what, like 5 to 1 or a little better? You probably shouldn't c-bet the flop because you're basically betting as a bluff (slightly different than c-bet). Probably a call almost for table image, but def raise that more preflop or flat call.

#2: Again raise more pre ... 3x or 4x + 1BB/limper is a great rule, again that is why you got a lot of action here. I'd cbet this and expect to get called by pocket pairs, but decent chance to take it down. Shut down on the turn/river if called.

#3: preflop call is shaky, i like check/call, check/raise, bet line here, especially since that king on the turn could've helped him (ace king, etc).

#4: Raise more on the flop ... yeesh, I see a pattern here. If you don't price out your opponents you're going to get callers a lot. As played I'm check/folding, maybe calling a small bet.

Hand 1: I probably either smooth call or raise more (say, $10) preflop (a 5x raise + two calls is pretty strong). On the flop, I take a free card for sure, because betting, especially that much, into so many people is a recipe for disaster. Why bet so much? Looks too much like a "panic bet" that left you very unsure of how to respond to a raise. As played, I don't see how you can call... if you're getting pot odds to try and hit a 6 outter (if you're lucky... you might be drawing dead or nearly dead; so I'd figure your outs against his range more like 2 or 3 on average) I guess it's a call, otherwise an easy fold.

Hand 2: You're out of position, but that flop is actually dry enough that you might be able to take a shot against a bunch of limpers. Checking is probably the safest play because you're at such a huge disadvantage, but I think c-betting like $5 here is acceptable. But I shut down if I get called/raised. Crazy as it sounds, I might have just called preflop for deceptive purposes, and because playing that hand multi-way out of position in a bloated pot SUCKS unless you hit the flop real good (since it's suited, I'm more inclined to raise, but off-suit I would have probably just called).

Hand 3: If you were planning to lead the turn, I either 1. Bet more, or 2. check-raise the flop. As played, I make a bigger river bet, because he seemed inclined to call the turn. I'd size the turn and river bets closer to $8 and $16-$20 rather than $6 and $8. He bet big on the flop when you hit the nuts, so you want to win a BIG pot. Better pot manipulation might have allowed you to stack him if he had a big pair here.

Hand 4: Yucky turn + way too much action on the flop = check and probably check/fold for me (especially because there was no flush draw, I'm very concerned about what the cold caller might have). Too hard to know where we're at to justify putting much more money in without more information.

Posted Thu Apr 05, 2007 4:23 pm GMT by snoogins47
Hand 1 is probably a call. I feel dirty checking behind on the flop, but I can't decide if betting would feel dirtier. I think it would.

Hand 2: Fire away.

Hand 3: I like leading this flop: since it's probably the best way to stack overpairs. Check-raising works goot too. As played probably bet more on the turn, but definitely make a much larger river bet

Hand 4: Run away screaming.

Ick, check/call and then lead turn weak is ick. Probably c/r the flop or just lead. Problem here is that your combo draw is not as strong as you think, do you see why?
