Sick tournamentstructure

Posted Thu Apr 05, 2007 5:37 pm GMT by Eusebio
Just came home from one of the local cardrooms...

200+ Players playing a 20€ 1 Rebuy tourney

You could make the Rebuy the first 3 levels and they were 30 Minutes long.

Then after the break I couldnt believe what I heard:

15 Minutes each level and the 3rd level had ante...

When I went out there were 100 Players left. the Average Stack 7900

The Blinds and Antes: 75, 300/600

M= less than 5!!!

I mean this is sick, isnt it? With an average stack you almost have to push any facecard...

Compared to other countries: is this a normal structure?

First time I went there were 30 minutelevels, then 20 and now they are going down to 15???

Depends if idiots run the tournament. An idiot will think like this:

Short levels with fast increasing blinds = short game = less effort to run the tourney

Of course, for the players, short levels with fast increasing blinds = crapshoot = never playing this tourney again.

It happens all over the place - you just have to find a tourney run by people with a brain.

Unfortunately, for local cardrooms, this structure is actually quite common, because no one has a f*cking clue how to run a tournament.

i bet its a lot less about them being ignorant of good structure, and a lot more of them wanting to make more money ... isn't raking a low limit game a lot more profitable than running low buy in tournaments?

Speaking of terrible tournament structures...

$35+$5 T3000 to start out with a 5/10 blind and goes up every 15 minutes, the play is so slow that you get like 5-10 hands per level. Everyone's a donkey, it plays like one of the 45 person turbos at pokerstars.

The payout goes 50% 30% 20%, 4th/5th place get nothing, which kinda sucks for being a 30-40 person tournament.

This happens at a bar in my town

No diffrent in the states at alot of casinos. Card room here have 120$ tounries with 20 minute lvls. With every a**hole taking 5 mintues to make up his mind blinds seam to come very fast. They just had a 300 dollar tourny here with 20 minutes lvls as well. Are you Fing kidding me, how can u even play poker. I believe they do this to get the tounry over and rake back in action would be my best guess.

QFT

They run low buy-in tournaments to get more people to the ring games.

I just played in one Saturday. $30 for T5000, $30 rebuy for 5k more and $30 for a 5k add-on. I paid $60 and started with 10,000. 20 minutes for level 1-4 and 15 minutes after that. Blinds went

100/200
200/400
300/600
400/800
break color up.
500/1000
1000/2000
2000/4000?!?!?!
3000/6000

My AK vs. pocket 10s early - lost
My KK vs. J10o early - lost
My KK vs. 77 - lost and got knocked out.

Not a fun way to blow $90.

I've found, in most instances at PS, the 'slow' players are the one playing multiple tables. If a player can handle multiple tables, fine, but if they are going to hold up every betting round in the game, they should give up the multi-tabling.

When I have complained to PS about this, they give a canned response that there are 'Turbo' tournaments available for me to play. They just ignore the problem.

They have a timer, they can't really make any one go faster than that.
