Staking and being staked online

Posted Sat Apr 14, 2007 6:58 pm GMT by jimmer
Do any of you guys know about staking players and being staked yourself online?

I came across a few sites and wondered how popular they were. I'm also wondering whether they were worth looking at in more detail.

Wouldn't mind hearing your experiences and opinions, both good and bad.

Thanks

Depends a little. I only got experience from live people I know who have offered online staking, not anything major though. One thing is staking from the scratch and other than that is buying action. If you stake from the scratch the other player usually sets you up with a bankroll, covers all losses and takes a certain cut of your profits untill you've paid him back.

Overlays/interests vary pending on how friendly your deal is, often 0 interest since staking becomes like an honour token amongst some players...if they stake others...they know they can get a stake if they bust also etc.

When you buy action you just stake a portion of the money a player risks in a tournament or higher cash game and you cover losses at your own risk, but get your money back + your % of the action from the profit if the player profits. The idea is if the player is good it is a +EV bet.

A variant of buying action is quite common around here I've seen, a group of players will round up a couple of thousand dollars and invest equal shares on their 'main man' etc, and split whatever profits may come.

Staking and trading action works great with people you know, absolutely horribly with sites + services provided online. They're trying to make money and are disinterested in you... (the "proving periods" where you show these companies that you "deserve" it are hilarious"...

A couple of my friends have gotten full $10k buyins repeatadly for 50/50 splits, though, so friendship is really awesome. There's very few people that would ever get a cent from me though, but I would feel comfortable (obviously?) having other ppl stake me for any of the stakes I've played. MTTs take a little bit more balls, though, as they have to be willing to watch you lose over and over without a second thought, often... Tests the friendship + the staking deal.
