His min-raise baffled me. Did he simply hit the 8, or is he slow-playing trips? How could he have a 9 or an 8 in his hand when he called a 5x BB raise pre-flop, unless maybe he has pocket 8s or 9s?
I don't think I can just call here, because I don't think there's a card that can come on the river that would frighten me out of the pot. It's push or fold.
Thoughts?

He could have a king or a 9, I'm probably going all-in here, just because these $4.40 donkaments drive me crazy, if you don't get a stack early it's not even worth playing

Yeah, he could have anything. I wouldn't be surprise to see A9, A8, Kx (heck even K9) or any pocket pair here.
However, what is the right play in a real tournament? I think early on the right move is to check behind on the turn seeing you had 2 callers and call a river bet or consider value bet/ fold if checked to.
The board is dry and their chance to improve is very small. in this semi danger board, I might prefer a cheap showdown then a big pot.

There is no doubt that a call here is for all our chips, so its either fold or push, I am only a big dog to 9X, I now go through the pain and think, if I fold do I want to be in the position of short stack this early in a tournament, If I fold will he be hitting on me again and again, If he doesn’t have a 9 then I am probably in front and can have the chip lead. Sometimes I fold sometimes I push, this time I push.

I'd say the majority of the time here he has a 9. We talk about not getting married to TPTK a lot and this is one of those cases. The guy either has no hand, or something that crushes you. So unless he decides to bluff you dont stand to make much, but potentially lose a lot. Check behind on the turn is a good idea.
As for how its played, I probably fold. You still have 900 chips and blinds are only 10/20. Easy enough to get back into shape.

I'd call a raise with 98s or T9s on the button early, so it's not as far fetched to me. I don't think I'd smooth call the flop with so many left to act and two clubs on board though.

i'd fold here.
He called your raise and then re-raised you.

.
Then again I might just think...sod it...and go all-in.

Push.
And yes I agree with Sean....89s, 910s...alot of these suited connectors can really pay off if the flop hits them. Same as with low pp.

I check a street with a hand like this.
I like to play one pair pretty small if possible. I don't like to encourage my opponents to stick it all in when I have one pair.
I like a check on the flop, or on the turn. I hate playing big pots in tournaments early on unless I have a lock hand - set, straight, flush, or better.
I probably have to fold here, because if I call I would probably be out of the tournament after this hand....
I would bet a lot of money your opponent has at least a 9...

someone has a 9 here... and it's not you... if you get all your chips in you're gonna lose them...

One hand you also didn't mention that would call a 5xBB raise is KK.
So this guy is making you make a big descision. Call or fold. It's for all your chips. Does he have the Nines, KK or totally messing with you?
Honestly I make the call here. If I am paying off X9, 99 or KK then so be it.
