I have a question.... sorry I'm stupid

Posted Mon Apr 26, 2004 4:02 pm GMT by WalkingSticks
how does limit work? Does it just have a maximum bet, or are there specific amounts that you must bet? I've always just played NL, so I am utterly inexperienced with limit.

Thanks in advance, sorry for the stupidity

Example:

10/20 limit table.

Small blind = $5
Big blind = $10

Pre-flop - Bet MUST be $10. No more, no less.
Flop - Bet MUST be $10. No more, no less.
Turn - Bet MUST be $20. No more, no less.
River - Bet MUST be $20. No more, no less.

There can be a max of four bets (usually) per round.
example
pre-flop. I bet $10
opponent1 raises $10 more to $20
opponent2 re-raises $10 more to $30
I re-raise $10 more to $40

if both opponents call, then we each have in $40 and nobody can bet anymore until the flop comes up.

really? That's not cool! Doesn't that take away a lot from the creativity of the game?

yes it does. Thats why I like no limit better.

I dont know if this is the rule everywhere but there is no bet cap when it goes heads up at the casino i play at. We still have to bet in increments (5/10) or whatever your playing, but you can just keep re-raising and re-raising till your all in or one of you calls.

That's just stupid. Why not just play no limit then?

It is still limit though. Most places just have the no cap when it's heads up. My guess is to speed the game up. Think about it, you get two tight but aggressive players and it could go all night. Don't get me wrong, I love heads up play, even if I'm just watching, but it's all about getting to the next game.
