Minimum raise (or raise to like $10). He will think you're overplaying AA/KK almost guaranteed. The only thing you're really protecting against is a flush draw anyway.

The real question is there any chance he raised UTG+1 with 78? that the only hand you are really afraid of now.
He probably have an over pair (8's to J's) or he picked a flush draw.
I say raise, if he goes over the top it read depended.

In a heads up pot, there is almost no way I'm folding this hand almost regardless of what he does.

Wow, if that wasn't the worst card in the deck...
Nevertheless, there is still a very good chance that you have the best hand here. I might check behind here just in case that screwed us, with the intent of calling a "value bet" type amount on the river, which could well be a bluff or a value bet from a weaker hand (assuming it isn't something like a 4th diamond).
On the flop, I was pretty sure we wanted to play a big pot, but that turn changes things. I probably slow down here, check behind, and hope to earn a small bet on the river.

like DC said... worst card in the deck... check it down ... and call a reasonable bet on the river...

I had him on JJ-KK so I didn't really fear that card a whole lot.

Don’t you just love poker "not"

Why did you min raise the flop?
With 2 the flush there are a lot of cards that can kill action or worse kill your hand. Put more money there now.
Turn is cool.
I think I can see a check behind on this river.
You now turned your hand into a bluff.

TERRIBLE bet on the river. Also, your turn bet looks like a "panic" bet. You may not fear that turn card, but you should, because even if doesn't immediately help your opponent, it may give him a lot more outs, and it drastically weakens your hand.

I'm not that worried about protecting against a FD or representing one in a HU pot.
The fact that your opponent made such a loose call with 99 tells me one of two things:
1. He is a calling station and you should befriend him.
2. He has no respect for your bets and you are probably bluffing too frequently.

Yeah river bet is bad.
I was 3 betting a lot preflop so it's possible he had no respect for my bets.
I min reraised the flop because I wanted a call.
A half pot bet on turn may have been better.
I'm trying out a much more aggressive preflop style.
My VP$P is higher than my flop percentage.
I'm about even money playing like this, so I'll keep doing it for at least 5k hands to see how it goes.
