Vegas - lowest stakes day time poker

Posted Thu May 10, 2007 12:18 pm GMT by MrDarling
Hi all ,

there is a good chance we'll be moving to Vegas soon for a couple of years (Wife got a job offer) so , as a stay home Dad I might attack the casino's try to make some kind of extra income from poker.

What is the lowest stakes available ?
How are the games in the day time? I do not want to sit in a casino every night. I would like it to be like a real job...

What are my chances? Am pretty decent $25NL online player right now. When I play good I am good! And I improve every day.

$3/$6 FL in the big rooms, $2/$4 FL in the smaller ones, $1/$2 NL everywhere.

Some NL mins are 1/3 or 2/5 with a $500 buyin.

Wynn, Bellagio have a 4/8 min on their fixed limit games.

Just an FYI, you may not find any decent games until 2-4pm. So the idea that you can sit down and play anywhere for any stakes in LV just isnt true. Your fish come out in droves after dinner or shows are over, playing 10pm to 2am would serve your bankroll better than playing with the daytime retirees.

Bellagio. $4000/$8000 mixed games. Some fishies named Doyle, Chip, and Barry think they're the bomb or something. You can take 'em.

Seriously though, low stakes games are pretty much uniformly bad. $25 NL online probably plays about the same as many $1/$2 live NL games in that 80%+ of the players have little to no clue. Same goes for about 95% of FL players below $6/$12, and probably the majority below $15/$30.

What Diamond said. And Dave in some other thread. And probably many others.

I'd say it depends on a number of factors: bankroll, your experience are the top two that jump out. I think Dave once compared a $4/$8 cash game to $.25/$.50 online, I'd say that's about right.

Yeah, I do realize the later the hour the softer the game. but I do not want to become one of those burned out who plays hours into the night.

Will look into it more closely when we are sure about the move..

In the mean while, what about daily MTT or S&G's?

Also, what about accommodation in vegas? How expensive is it? and how are life in vegas?

Not sure how accurate it is, but http://www.allvegaspoker.com/tournaments.php.

You might be moving at the right time for housing. There was an article on cnnmoney the other week that they were predicting LV to be the worst housing market in the country for the next year (-8.9%).

Presuming, of course, you rent for a while til you scope out the town.

During the week, you can get a room at Imperial Palace on the Strip (right across from Bellagio and Caesar's) for about $50 per night. Off the Strip, it can be even cheaper. Check Vegas.com for decent rate comparisons.

Edit: I just realized you said you might be moving there, in which case I have no idea, but I might be interested as well, since I am thinking about UNLV for grad school.
