Am I doing something wrong? |

I have noticed that I very often can get relatively deep into a MTT tournament, simply by stealing the blinds and winning lots of small to medium sized pots. But I never seem to make it into the money with a big stack.
I've noticed recently that some of the "good" players play very aggressively with their big hands early in a tournament - they make huge raises and reraises with AA-QQ and AK (and sometimes JJ-99). They seem willing to stick it all in with these hands preflop nearly right from the beginning of the tournament.
I try to play small pots early on. I limp in with lots of hands in position and make small raises (2.5x BB) with my stronger hands.
I've heard players like Erick Lindgren and Gavin Smith discuss that they play to either get chips or go home. So how do we do this? I don't mind going out early in a tournament if I felt like it gave me a higher chance to chip up, and be in better shape at the blind stealing stage. I've seen players with 2x the average stack chip up to HUGE stacks during the ante stage (something I feel like I can do), but other than getting lots of big hands, is there anything players can do to get chips early in a tournament?

take bigger gambles with regards to draws, like straight draws and flush draws. Call or reraise more in position?
If you are going deep I wouldn't be too concerned with your play tbh, I mean I would advise putting alot of pressure on the table if they seem inclined to sit and wait while they cash, on the other hand I find that $100 + mtts people are racing to win as many chips as they can so they are playing very liberal - in this situation instead of waste chips putting in small raises and trying to play flops cheaply, I will sit and wait a little and trap or get my opponent to make an error.
Basically don't play the same way every tournament bud. Change it up and adapt, adapting to tournament situation and table is one of the biggest weapon in a players arsenal in my opinion. Hope this helps anyway, good luck.
