Not a big win or anything but certainly worth reporting:
I was in a single-table $1.20 buy-in NL SnG on PokerStars. Early in the tournament I was down to about 1,100 of the 1,500 starting stack and one player had been eliminated. Then, out of nowhere, spousal requirements materialized. No big deal, it was only a $1.20 buy-in to kill some time. I clicked the Leave Table button and shut down the computer.
The next day I found an eMail telling me that I'd come in second.
I've seen people in MTTs get a big chip lead early and then sit out and could see how it could make sense. But what kind of wacko play at this table could result in me being second when I wasn't even there??? Go figure.

I used to play free rolls on Pacific poker, 2000 entrants 50% would not be at the table and get blinded out. The skill was to try and outlast them. Now you have a lot of players who build a quick stack by going all-in with any reasonable cards if they hit a few times they sit out. By playing hundreds of free rolls on dozens of sites, they possibly get into the money occasionally. Free money little effort sounds like a plan.

I just played another single table $1.20 SnG and saw this from the other side. One player played a couple of hands (so he/she was there) and then sat out while 6 players busted out. He came back one out of the money with about 250 chips and the blinds at about 100. He folded one SB and then went all in with an ace on the button and lost to pocket tens. But he got amazingly close to the money by doing nothing.
