I didn't get out there yet... I did look at what was going in with the first two events and it looks like they were delayed in the starting time on the first event.
I subscribed to katie porrello's blog at myspace, and it seems worse than i thought it to be. Anyone else hear anything?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

All the reports I've seen on Cardplayer, Pokerwire, 2+2, and pro blogs say it is a shit-storm. People were outraged about the ridiculously-designed cards, lines were out of control, and the whole affair seemed generally mismanaged (and a lot of people are PISSED about the jacked-up vig for all the events). Granted, it's only the first few events, but knowing what I know about Harrah's, I'm willing to bet it ain't gonna get much better because all they care about is their bottom line.

I take it you didn't play the Casino Employees event then Sal?
The cards caused The Mouth to blowup within 5 minutes of the 4th event starting...the $5,000 mixed holdem. Mike expressed the same concerns as most everyone else and that was the card design. It made 6's and 9's hard to tell apart. Harrah's did swap all the decks out with new decks of a different design and then play resumed. They are saying now that Harrahs will not use the new deck design for the rest of the WSOP.

The index makes sense in a way, given how most people check their hole cards. The rank on the face is what makes them tough to read, IMO. If they moved it to the top left instead of the top right, it might be more easily recognizable.

And to make things worse:

The situation in the Poker Pavilion is impossible. The wind is slamming the tent from the outside, and it's also rushing in through the doors and causing a strong draft inside the room. The entire structure, including the metal rafters and pillars, is shaking like some kind of funhouse attraction. Standing in the middle of the room you can't believe your eyes, it almost feels like the wind might fill the inside of the roof and lift it like a sail.
The situation has deteriorated enough that Harrah's has sent the players on an early dinner break and they will try to break as many tables inside the Amazon Room as possible so they can seat the entire event indoors. If they can't do that, they've announced that they will postpone it until tomorrow.
It's a decision that had to be made. Players were extremely vocal in their displeasure about the conditions and, frankly, it was starting to look dangerous in there. The wind is very powerful and it hasn't let up all day.
So, we are on dinner break for 90 minutes. Play will resume at 10:30 p.m. PDT. Provided they can get everyone seated indoors, that is. |
The Poker gods are angered at Harrah's.
