Townsend and Farha Going Head-to-Head at Bellagio
The Two Are in the Midst of a Three-Day Game in Bobby's Room
While the World Series of Poker rocks along at the Rio, a very interesting game between Brian Townsend and Sammy Farha is taking place in the Bellagio’s Bobby’s Room.
For the last few days, Townsend and Farha have been playing a mixed game of pot limit Omaha and no limit hold’em with blinds of $500-$1,000. The game started June 5, and three sessions already took place. The game is supposed to continue this afternoon.
Card Player’s Craig Tapscott caught up with Townsend after the session ended yesterday evening, and Townsend had this to say about the game so far:
"I've played big on the Internet, but this is a very big game. Playing heads up you could get a two million dollar swing. You could be playing great, and still lose two million dollars; either one of us. We're looking to increase to possibly $1,000-$2,000. We'll see."
During the first session alone, Townsend says the two played four or five pots that broke the half-million mark, which is what both players started the game with.
Here are some things Townsend wrote about through his blog at Cardrunners.com on June 5:
"We played a marathon session which ended with me down 500K. We were both playing very aggressively and at one point Sammy was down 800K, but was able to come back. We probably played four or five pots that were over 1/2 million dollars. The match really swung back and forth and I am looking forward to continuing it later tonight. This is probably the largest game I have ever played in as we both had 1/2 mil in front of us and we were playing insanely aggressively. To have 4-5 1/2 mil+ size pots as well as about 15 200-500K pots shows how wildly we were playing.
Today’s blog (June 7), tells how Townsend was down $1.2 million, but managed to squeak out a small profit (Townsend’s definition of “small” would be enough to buy a good American sports car). He also goes on to tell how Farha wanted to flip a coin for $470,000.

No, I think Andy was playing $50k/$100K or something really crazy.
The regular "big" game in Bobby's Room is 4000/8000. It is just more unusual to see 2 guys going at it like this for so long heads up.
I saw Patrik Antonis (sp?) and Farha playing these stakes back in April.

Day 3 of Sammy vs. Brian
Zimba reporting...
Day 3 of the HU PLO and NLH series between Sammy Farha and Brian Townsend began at Bobby's room at the Bellagio about 1:30pm Pacific. Stakes remained the same from previous days at 500/1k. More sessions are planned this week. On site reporters haven't been allowedto give more detailed reports, so I will use Brian's blog to make occasional updates when i'm text messaged.
2 pm - Brian is off to a quick start and up 200k in the first 30 minutes.
2:55 pm - Brian continuing his good play and up 370k.
3:30 pm - Brian up 500k.
3:35 pm - Brian up 600k.
4:05 pm - Brian up 760k, Sammy has bust through what he brought and more, Sammy is considering getting more to continue play, but clearly frustrated.
After taking a break, Sammy returned to the table with additional funds. They are playing once again. I hope to have more concrete details of the evening session from Brian during their next break.
