Well played or suckout?

1. Game type - World Tavern Poker, live play
2. Levels & Payout - First level
3. Blinds and Antes - blinds at 100 and 200, no ante
4. Number of Players - 8 players, I'm in small blind.
5. Position of all other key players in the hand - Villian is in MP.
6. Your hand (duh) and your stack size - Jh 10h, have about 5000
7. The stack size of those other key players in the hand - villain has about 6200
8. The size of bets
9. Your feel on the other key players in the hand, are they playing agro or tight? - Good player, can be loose, but not stupid enough to play 72o
10. How you've been playing so far, and how what you think your image is at that table. - Early in the game, but I have a fairly tight table image from my previous games there, we all know each other except for 1 new guy.

Start: I'm in the small blind holding Jh 10h. Everyone folds except 1 limper in MP (villian) to me. I raise to 600 (3x BB), trying to steal.
BB folds, villian calls. Pot size at 1400

Flop: 5c 10d 10s
I'm first to act, so I bet out 600. I flopped trips, so I figure I've got the best hand here. Villian calls. Pot size now 2600

Here, I'm a little concerned. I'm afraid she my have A 10 here, but I'm thinking that she's got a big pair, JJ's or better. Either way, she just called, so I'm still in it.

Turn: Qc
Now I'm worried, but I'm watching her, and I don't see anything to indicate that the queen helped her. I bet 1200 now, she calls.
Pot size now at 5000

At this point, I don't know what to think. I don't know if she's slow playing me or what, but she's just calling me, so I think that she's just waiting to hit her hand, or is putting me on a bluff.

River: 2h No straight or flush possible.
I go all in, 2300. Villian calls.

I flip over trip 10's

Villian flips over --- A A
(Answer above in white)

At this point, half the table looks at me like I'm an idiot, but I don't see how I misplayed this.

Nothing wrong with that.

TBH in a tournament scenario I don't think AA played too bad either.

as played it's fine... you tried to steal and flopped a huge hand which you bet the whole way.. villian at no point showed any strenght... (that's a huge mistake for villian because as played post flop easily looks like you have a 10)...

the only comment i have on your play is that early in tournaments (especially first blind lvl) I'm not a big fan of stealing the blinds OOP... you have lots of chips... no real need to be stealing at this point...

and the size of your bets 600 into 1400 pot on flop..
1200 into 2600 pot on the turn... and 2300 into 5000 pot.. (this last one isn't your fault... you pushed but i still see a pattern)...

As for the stealing the blinds bit, with the structure the was it is, (blinds go up every 20 minutes) if you don't make a move fairly quickly, it's too easy to be blinded out. The way I figured it, if you fold every hand, you'll be blinded out in 11 rounds, or about 90 hands.

Plus, I've always played very conservatively, and I have a tight table image. I've been doing a lot of reading and watching others play, and I realized that I'm not nearly aggresive enough, I fold too easily, and that I'm not using my position enough. I figured that with my tight table image, I could make a move early on, steal what I can. Here, I was out of position, but with everyone almost gone, I figured this was a good spot to try. Plus J 10 suited isn't a bad hand.

As for my betting pattern, I knew I was betting about 1/4 of the pot on the flop and turn. I was out of position, and didnt' want to bet too little or too much, and to be able to get out if things took a bad turn for me. You think I should have mixed it up some?

i think your betting was good,... you flopped a monster heads up, no need to scare your opponent out with huge bets when theres not even a draw in sight

1/4 to 1/2 pot bets are just too small...

and no J10 isn't that bad of a hand in that spot...

Thanks for the replies, it'll give me something to think about and work on. I'm trying to change my playing style, but I don't want to change too much at once. I've noticed that a lot of the players there treat this as limit holdem for some reason (2x and 3X the BB raises are normal here). Maybe I've just gotten used to it and fell along into the same rut.

ya played it fine... she's a calling station that was trying to trap you.

Yep, villian (if there was any process going on) was putting you on a pair or high cards which you'd bet post-flop. Too bad for her that you caught a flop.

To answer your original question, they are not mutually exclusive. You made a move, sucked out, but made no mistakes in your play.

I don't really understand what the question is. From what I know, the OP wins the hand with 3 Tens against Aces and Tens. His opponent is a calling station trying to slow play the aces, putting the OP on a bluff, middle pair, or an overpair like KK. Can someone tell me what the concern is? Why is the table looking at the OP like he is an idiot when his opponent made a mistake?

When 5 of 7 people at the table call you a suckout, and you don't think you misplayed it, getting an outside opinion isn't a bad idea.

What was really insulting was when she went all in for 1200 (blinds at 200/400, this was about 15 minutes later), and I called her with J 9s. (I had the big stack at the time, and position) She flipped up pocket aces again. Here, I definitely sucked out, I caught a jack on the flop and another on the river.

There, I only bet about 10% of my stack, I put her on a desperation move with over cards. I figured even if I lost, I was still in good shape.

Luckily, she's been around long enough and knows me well enough to not take umbrage at the unlucky turn of events. As she put it, "Poker happens".
