I've started focusing my game more on my opponents, rather than my own. Trying to grab some tells or patterns.
I play with mostly the same people everytime, so it should be easy to start finding some. But, what do you do with the player that rarely ever flips up his cards? I do have some reads on him, but I want to go deeper and gain more, since he's a reg if you will.
I've tried to persuade him to flip them over, and I tried to egg him on. But he won't budge. I think it's pretty funny, he's probably the 5th best out of around 9 people, yet he's one of the only ones who has grasped the importance of not showing your cards. But he has one pattern that basically everyone has picked up on. Every overbet he does, is 8 out of 10 times a bluff. But when he wins/loses, he does not show. The only thing I can get is his position at which he did it from, and with him it's really never the same. But I want to be able to put him on a hand, instead of just hoping this one is a bluff.
So, what can you do with the players who will not show. Am I forced to only wait until showdowns?
Thanks.

If you don't pay to see the cards, then he doesn't have to show them. Nothing you can do except call him down and force him to show you. It may take a half dozen hands, and you'll probably lose every time, but if it give you the read you need, it'll be worth it in the long run.

It's worth possibly paying him off on a few hands (try and pick smaller pots for this if possible) to get a read on him if you play with him on a regular basis. Other than calling him there really isn't anything you can do to make him show his cards.
