I'm sorry, I don't have and hand history of the hand, so I'm going to type it out.
I'm playing in a $1.10lol rebuy/addon tourny, around 300 people enter. Top 40 are paid. You can rebuy for an hour, and then addon 1k chips at the end of the hour for $1. I'm happy to say I didn't rebuy/addon the whole tournament.
I'm on the button with 10k in chips, the blinds are 600/1200. It folds around to me and I look at Ac8h, I just got moved to the table, so I don't know anything about the BB (SB was sitting out), Theres 38 people left.
I push, BB thinks about it for a while, calls and flips over AJ, I don't improve, I get knocked out in 37th and win $4.50.
Clear push, right? Late in the tournament, I'm probably a third of the average chipstack, around 9-10x the BB.
In this situation, would have any Ace been an almost automatic push? What about QJ?

Yeah beauty play. You didn't even have 10 BB's, you were already in the money, and had a decent ace. You were also on the button, so it is unlikey for the remaining to players to have any calling hands. You unfortunately ran into one. But your stack size, the blinds, your place in the tourny, and your position all encouraged your all in play with A8o.

Yes and Yes (at least to me). In both cases, you don't really want action, picking up just the blinds is a good thing to stay alive looking for a place you do want action. That combined with the fact that you only had to beat one player makes it an easy push.
The only other play I could see would be a stop-and-go, which might've worked in this case if the opponent didn't hit. If (s)he was deep enough that (s)he might've felt not committed post-flop, you possibly could've picked up the pot. But I doubt it; I think the outcome was going to be this either way.

Thank you for the replies.
I know I could have grinded out a few more spots, and waited for a better hand. But, it was just bad luck I ran into a hand.
I was pretty surprised when they turned over AJ. After the bar was half way gone, I was fairly positive they would fold, or I had the best hand if they called. I hadn't played a hand in a while, basically had a rock table image, just didn't work out for me though.
But thank you all for reading
