I had QQ1010A on the flop, then QQQ1010 on the turn. I was betting low because I wanted him to call. Unfortunately he did

I thought you were going to say he had pocket A's for the quads but that's still a rough one.

i think slowplaying anything is a big risk. not that i don't ever do it... but you have to be quite certain about your hand and your oppenent. if you have the nuts... and you think you can build the pot... by all means do so... but once you lose the nuts... it's a big risk.
if i have a good hand, but not the nuts... i play VERY aggressive. i'd rather win a small pot than lose a big one. sometimes it stings me... but i think it's the smart thing to do. you want to "punish" players for drawing on weak hands... not reward them for making a catch on the turn or river.
this is jmho though. what do y'all think?

Agree i always Slowplay the nuts. Cause i play with agressive people. And i always am agressive when i have top pair on a low board medium pair on a high board. Just to test the waters.

Its a bad call on the end. I know that you are pissed that you let the other dude catchup, but, live and learn. Better to win a small pot than lose a big one.

I like how you put the important parts in bold. Im lazy and that made it easy to read :D

I agree w/many of the comments above. Slow play can yield very nice pots, but can also get you so committed it makes it hard to fold even when it's the correct play. I've suffered your fate b4, as well as lay down my hand in similar situations. It's a tough one for sure.

Even when you don't slow play the hand you can still get busted out by a stubborn player though.
I have J,10 in the small blind and for whatever reason everyone limps to me, it's going to be the last hand of the night for me (I annouced I'd play through my big blind then I had to go), and I'm only interested in protecting my stack.
Flop is A, J, 3. Agressive loose player bets $5. I call just wanting to see one more card and then I'll probably let it go. Turn is a jack. He bets another $5. I'm pretty sure he has the Ace now, but since it's the last hand for me and I just got lucky, I decide to announce I have the J the only way I can legally, by betting back big at him, no slow play for me on this one (I had a bad feeling about the hand anyway and just wanted to rake the pot and cash out) I rereaise another $20. He calls, ok fine. River....an Ace.
I know I have the shit end of the boat now, I decide I'll call up to $20 just to make sure he's not buying it, but nothing more. He bets $20, I tell him he has me beat and call...yep the damn Ace.
So a hand I was willing to lose $6 costs me $50 because I didn't slow play it. If I had, I would of let it go as soon as I saw the last Ace fall.
It works both ways.
