Ok, my new career as a professional card player has not proceeded all that well. Am down 138 bucks in the last 2-3 weeks. What do you call with to see the flop? In my case Ace anything, any pocket pair and KQ KJ i would call the bet to see the flop provided it was the mininum and not some fool raising me. This may have been too conservative for i noticed all the other players were seeing 4x the flops I was. My career continues but I am playing freeroll tournies to practice. Right now I am calling to see the flop with anything suited and will go in with any king queen or jack as long as the second card is suited plus same as before ace anything any pocket pair etc. What do you think? What is it you need in the pockets before you call to see the flop? What are they with 9 or 10 at the table and what is it with 4 or 5 at the table? I am assuming your preflop standards change mine do or am I wrong in that thinking? All comments are welcome and all advice sincerely appreciated. I play at pokerroom.com and was entering the 5+1 tournies. In the 3 weeks I won 1 placed 2nd 2 or 3 times and third maybe a half dozen but since I was playing a lot I'm sure you realize those finishes aren't good enuf. I should mention that I play sit N Go 10 people only Does that matter? Do i need to stick to multi tables? What do you think?

It really depends on a lot of things. Position, number of players already in, is there a raise and who raised it up, the feel of the table (loose or tight), etc. I think your best bet would be to get a couple of books. I like Sklanky's books, he rates hands in "groups" and then depending on different factors gives you an idea of when to fold, call, or raise. But his books are not easy reads IMO, seems a little more complicated than it needs to be sometimes. Works for me but maybe not everyone.

You said you go in on ace anything. That is a money losing play. If you hit your ace you will probably put more money in the pot and since the odds of someone else keeping an ace are good, they will probably have you outkicked.

Do not go in on all suited cards either. You probably wont hit your flush then your stuck with low pair or even worse. And even if you do hit your flush with your little cards you could still get beat by a bigger flush. Again that will waste your money. People tend to overrate low suited cards. They are usually worthless, fold them. Same with low connectors.

I usually won't play anything with an A less than a 10 unless their suited and I have a good position. I'll play suited connectors occasionally to either mess with people or in position. I played in a tourney last nigh and folded 55 down to 22 pocketed probably 2/3 of the times I got them because I was out of position and they just don't hit often enough.

ya i fold low pockets on occasion. Last night I had pocket 2's. I fold. Hit my set on the flop and Quads on the turn. I was kicking myself that time.
