I’m button w/ AcTh in .5/$1 NL. There are 4 limpers before me, I limp in, so with the blinds, 7 see the flop, which is As Jh 7h. Little blind bets a dollar, and everyone calls. I think about jacking it up to $5 to protect my aces, but with so many people in the pot I figure someone had to have 2 pair, trips, or an ace with a better kicker, and they will probably play back at me. So I call, hoping for a good turn. 5h comes on the turn and someone bets $5. I smell flush and fold.
Should I have tried to protect my aces after the flop, or would I have been throwing my money away?

This is another situation that would have called for a raise on the flop. You want to give those straight/flush draws poor pot odds and make them pay a large amount to take a gamble on another card. If someone had AK, AQ, or maybe even AJ, in .50/1 NL, I would think they wouldn've raised it preflop. Eventhough a more experienced player would only raise with AK or AQ suited maybe, at that level, people think any two face cards are golden. If someone does have one of those hands or flopped a set, you'll find out quick. Again, the raise on the flop is merely to push people away or find out info.

I would of raised preflop with A 10 just to get the junk out, then if you hit your Ace you can decide if it's good by how it's getting played back at you. If a guy wants to slow play his AJ or better preflop and then continue to slow play it after the flop he's getting paid off by me, but I'll bust him later when my A lowcard hits two pair from him not protecting his big hand.
In your situation assumming I just got called I would make it expensive to see another card with the board showing a flush draw. Say $5 preflop and once I hit the Ace I'm going probably $10. If you get 3 guys to call the preflop bet you already made $19 on what sounds like a slow table anyway.
I rarely ever slow play a hand if the flop shows a flush draw, you can get paid off big by making it expensive and having them miss. If they hit you can get away from the hand if you feel they've got it or call them down if your not. Either way doing the right thing is a must IMHO.
