Supreme Court Slashes $2.5 billion award to $500 million

Talk about bad beats.
Exxon walks with a slap on the wrist.
Of the 33,000 plaintiffs, like 6 thousand have died since the original $5 billion was awarded in 94.

Exxon officials let a known relapsing alcoholic drive their tanker until he runs aground and spills over 11 million gallons of crude into the pristine waters of Prince William Sound.

They pay some 3 billion to "clean" up their mess. (Which they should have to do.) Some cleanup, you can still find oil on the beaches in PWS if you go dig. Then they claim they've paid enough.

So the farking supreme court agrees and lets them off the hook with "punitive" penalty equating to maybe a days profit for Exxon.

The herring fishery in PWS was decimated and has not recovered. Livelihoods were lost, ways of life were lost, and Exxon gets off the hook.

I fished commercially in PWS before and after the spill, and was raised in Cordova AK.
This spill affected my income drastically in 1989 and for years after as well as many others to a degree that is really hard to measure monetarily.
How do you compensate someone for their lost way of making money?

How do you ensure big business doesn't walk all over the little people?
You don't, not with Reagan, BushII and BushI cronies in the supreme court.

This case has been dragged thru the courts for almost 14 years and in the end, Exxon officials are toasting each other while those left alive of the 33,000 are crushed emotionally, bitter and left with nothing more than a few thousand dollars to compensate them for lost livelihoods.

I'm disgusted with the United States Supreme Court and now, more than ever, realize these jokers are just political bastards who care nothing about justice.

I'm bitter.
F the supreme court and F Exxon.
