Alot!

An example:

You have A7o. The flop comes AJ5. Theres some betting, and it gets down to you and one other player. The flop shows a 4. More betting, etc. Finally, a Ten comes.

So, the board is AJ54T. If you're playing a full ring game with tight players, and one of these guys has been calling and reraising your raises, you're cooked. Lets say he shows AQ. His best had is AAQJT, while your best hand is only AAJT7. So the other player is said to have aces, queen kicker, while you only have aces, jack kicker.

Kickers are just the next largest card for your pair, two pair, three of a kind, or four of a kind. They are the cards you use to break a tie, essentially.

Hope that helps.
