Dream hand!

Posted Mon Aug 18, 2008 11:55 am GMT by Underbelly
So I was at a small tournament over the weekend in which I won. As soon as it was over I was planning on leaving. That was until the guy that finished 3rd talked my into playing a small 5 handed, winner take all, game. I was tired and really didn't want to, but did. About 5 minutes into it, I got Pocket Kings.

Now I raised 6x. I know what seems a little much but the blinds were low and there was a lot of loose play. I was hoping for one caller. I got all four.

Right away I think I'm screwed because with 5 in the hand, someone is going to catch something.

The Flop 9K5 with 2 spades.

The person right before me checks, so I bet about the pot. (maybe a little less). I've got trips and don't want to see the spade draw catch. I would have been happy to take the pot right there. I get 2 callers.

Turn is 8 (not a spade)

I make the same bet as last time. Now, since the spade didn't hit, I don't mind a call. Yes they can still hit but with only one more card to go, I'll take that chance.

River is the 8 of spades!

Again I make the same bet, looking for action. The guy next (the guy BTW who talked me into playing, raises 2x my bet. The person to my right calls. I go all in and both call!

The first guy has 7-3 of spades???? for a small flush and the other has pocket five for a smaller boat!

Needless to say, I went on and won a few more bucks before going home! It's hand like that that make all the time I get sucked out on worth it!

Just wanted to share!

same bet?.. you mean you kept betting pot or you bet the same amount as your first bet... if you bet the same amount on all 3 streets that's bad..

Yes, I bet on all three streets. After the flop I bet pot. That was ok. After the turn, I should have bet more, probably close to another pot size raise. In my defense, it was late, I was tired and should have never agreed to play this game. (It was after two days of poker) After the river, I was betting more a small value bet which turned out to be about what I bet before, since I had the nuts.

So, in my mind, neither bet after the flop ot the one after the river was bad. The river could have been a huge mistake since I gave them the odds to call with their draws.
