UK NL Tourney Stuff

Just some thoughts from a tourney at my local casino, from an email I sent a friend.

It is a Hold 'em £22 NL Tourney with re-buys for the 1st 75 minutes. You get 500 chips to start.

I forgot how bad MOST of the players are at Luton. There I am folding the night away as usual, using the time to watch what they are calling with, a task not made easy, by the fact they call with anything. Any A, any two cards suited, any two connectors, top pair on the flop is a monster etc. I am also trying to get some practise of reading people, something you obviously can't do on-line, and I realise It will take hours and hours to get good at this, but you have to start somewhere.

Five minutes to go in the re-buy period, I've managed to win a few pots to keep my chips around the 500 mark. I get AQ UTG and raise all-in, all fold around to the BB who calls without hesitation, shit, I know I'm behind. He shows KK. Flop comes A A rag, woohoo, looks like my luck is in, turn K, mmmmm another on-line style board, to tell ppl about when they moan about on-line fix's etc.

CHIPS! I re-buy. A couple of hands later I get KQs All in , and two callers I make a K on flop and stands up, treble through. Re-buys over, and about 25 players left. I make a few position moves, and get 99 all in once, that stands up, and build my stack to 3000, when I hear the magic words "Final Table" I'm really pleased, I was determined to try and not lose tonight. They work out the prize money and its £120 to 9th, 8th and 7th. Not bad, I'm guaranteed just under £80 profit, as I bought in for £22. So I feel relieved. I'm 2nd lowest stack by about 500. Its midnight now, and I am feeling a bit tired (get those excuses in early!)

We draw and I'm seat 3, great, the big blind. I post my 600 (The blinds are now 300-600) and look down at Q6. It goes around to the SB who calls, I check. The flop is 10 10 rag. The SB checks, I decide thats a weak play and move all in, but disaster! there was another caller, and I hadn't realised!! He calls and shows me Q 10.

OK, I'm unlucky he made trips, as I think it could have been a strong play, if that caller had missed the flop, but hey, I know it's still an error, and i'm furious at myself, for missing it. Embarassed

But I'm still happy with my profit, and making that final table.

Nice 1 dude, sounds like u had some fun at least Smile

I don't live that far from Luton and I'm desperate for some decent real-life NL Holdem tourney action. How often are these tourneys played and where?

Thanks for the above reply.

Luton has PL and NL throught the week. NL £20 is Fi's, PL £20 is weds etc. The casino is located in Dunstable road, and as you prolly know, you need to join 24hrs before you can play.

If you want to just check it out before you join, I will be happy to sign you in.

I also run a small home game in Stevenage, Herts (not far from Luton), and we are playing small tourneys next Sat 9th Aug. £10 buy in. Those are more of a laugh with mates, than proper ruthless! poker...

You would be welcome to come to that too

Cheers

Simon
