Day 2 is coming to a close and today was the first day I played any poker having just fought the effects of a 24hr+ day yesterday.
Staying in the Venetian, I decided to hop over the road to the Mirage for their 'High Noon' tourney which is a $45+15 (33% fee?!) with a $20 add-on. Everyone took the add-on immediately so I followed suit.
There were initially 48 runners and my table was a total aquarium. I've honestly never seen a poorer group of exploitable players. Needless to say, by the end of the first hour I was table and tourney chip leader having done nothing particularly extravagant to get there.
The field eventually topped out at 53 and for the second hour I went pretty card dead and ended up treading water really. Still, at the second break with 32 players left I was averagely stacked.
After the break, the blind levels began jumping a little and things became a little crapshooty. People started falling pretty quickly and they broke my table unfortunately. The top 9 were due to be paid and with 11 left, I got coolered big time when my AK lost to AQ AIPF. Both of us were middle stacked and after that I was left with 6,500 at 2,500/5,000 +500!
Immediately after that hand we were on the FT of 10 and there was talk of a bubble deal. One dissenting voice killed that so we played on. I picked up 33 first hand of the FT shipped it into 66 and the rest is history. Ug, first was $1,250 which would have been a decent start to the trip.
I'm currently sat in the Venetian food court on the free WiFi having managed to exit their 7PM game in under 10 minutes. That's right, I managed to lose 7,500 chips in 10 minutes at 25/50. Here's how......
Third hand I have AcJd UTG and raise to 225. Folds to CO who calls as does BTN and both blinds. Flop KdTd4d. Blinds check, I fire 750 which CO flats and blinds fold. Turn is As and I check. CO fires 1,250 and I tank for a bit and call (don't ask!). The river is 4h and I check again ready to give up. CO fires 1,625 which is such a disgustingly stinky value bet that I look him up just because I want to see what shit he called PF with. Sure enough it was Ad3d. Ug, that sucks but I played it SO bad it's not even true. So after that, I am down to about 3,400.
Next hand I have A7o in the BB and see no raise 5 way. I check, flop AXX, fire and get raised. I perhaps foolishly release but I've cultivated a nice donkey image right? Oh yeah, that's cos I'm a donkey
The very next hand in the SB I pick up 7s7c and there is a min-raise which has been called three times before me. I call, BB calls and flop is Jh7d6d. I fire a pot sized bet and get two callers in MP/LP. Turn is 8c. The pot is now my stack so I shove it figuring no-one can possibly have T9 and there's a chance I get rid of the diamond draws. Both players call............
River is Tc and Mr LP says "I rivered it" and tables J9o. I congratulate him on his excellent play and take my leave throwing down my set of 7s face up so that people don't think I'm a total donkey. I amazingly don't punch anything or anyone in the next 30 seconds before I calm down and decide that it's only poker and I don't care. My tilt/rage is normally very good although tonight it was tested to the limit.
Here's to tomorrow although what that brings I don't know. I plan to sit by the pool all morning and not play til the evening but plans always change on the fly in this town. I think we are going to hit the Rio and rail the WSOP for a bit. I'll probably play a sat to Saturday's $1,500 NLHE event too for good measure.

It's raining bricks in Vegas but the last couple of nights have been hella fun.
Mike (Gen Sal) and I headed to the Mirage on Saturday night for some poker/free drinks and started an interest list for a 3/6 HORSE game. Within about 15 minutes there were 8 players ready to go and we spent the next 5hrs or so drinking and playing this glorious game.
We sat in seats 1 & 2 with a young guy in seat 3, an old donk in seat 4 and then three HORSE sharks in seats 5-7 who all seemed to know each other. Seat 8 was some guy I can't even remember.
It was immediately clear that Team HORSE were just sitting there looking to carve us up and it was also immediately clear that Mike is a bigger donk than I am at all four non-holdem games so I wasn't quite the biggest fish at the table.
The game started with the snoozefest that is limit holdem and then when we moved onto Omaha-8, a funny incident occurred which soured the shit out of the table for a bit
Mike and one of Team HORSE were in a hand and were HU to the river. On the river, Team HORSE tabled a boat for the high and Mike was about to muck until I waded in with "dude, do you not have a low?!". Needless to say, Mike actually had the nut low (donk!) and tabled that instead of mucking to chop the pot. Team HORSE got really pissy with me and stormed off, which is fully understandable of course, but it was also kinda funny. F*ck that guy
After the temper tantrum, he returned and we floated along for the next few hours with no-one really winning except the rake box. The table had some really cool people at it as the night went on so it was fun and I guess we learnt a little. Mainly that we suck a bit but that really ORSE games are not that hard against inexperienced players if you just use your brain a little.
Last night we headed back to the Mirage and again started another 3/6 HORSE list which again filled up pretty quickly. A couple of the same faces were there but Team HORSE were nowhere to be seen luckily.
As per the night before, it was fun for the most part until some dumbass looking guy arrived late on and sucked any enjoyment left in the game out of it! Right towards the end of the session as we were down to five-handed play, we were playing Stud Hi and I was HU with him by 4th. I ended up making a funky two pair against his fairly benign board and when I bet seventh, he tank called. I turned up my two pair and he literally sat there for 30 seconds looking at his cards until declaring a flush. I rightly busted his chops for slow rolling me and started racking up. He tried some bullshit about not seeing it and claimed he wasn't slow rolling. I remember saying "did the patterns on the cards eventually match up?" but stopped short of saying "you inbred chicken f*cker" but now I wish I had
So anyway, HORSE 3/6 is a horrible game for making any money but fun as hell and the Mirage is apparently full of HORSE loving degenerates if anyone wants to go donk it up live out here

Yeah Horse games out here are wild.
I played a lower limit horse game at the TI and the whole table was double and triple straddling... drunk off their asses.

LOL Yeah, I'm pretty bad at those lowball games. I don't know what are good starting cards... K 7 6 is no good in razz?
But, it was fun. I learned to play some new games, so I don't mind paying for the education.
I really had a lot of fun just going out, playing poker, and hanging out with HalfSugar's poker league. 12 people?! That's a lot, but still quite a fun trip. They have quite a merry bunch, and you guys should come out next year. Just to be around all of it and see the WSOP transpire is fun alone. You can play all these $ 60-$300 tournies all month long.

One harrowing footnote - on the third hand of our first rotation of Razz on the second night of HORSE at the Mirage, I was dealt rolled up Aces for the first time ever. Why do I have to get that in Razz?!!

Donking it up at the cheapest HORSE cash games on Stars, this beauty came along. No idea if I played it good or bad but either way, kerching I opened for a full bet which I guess is standard with A23 even two suited? Also, by the time 6th arrived, two of my three opponents showed a rainbow board so I figured I was most likely nutting both ways and hence bet/raised every single chance I had. Against, say, three/four suited board I'd check/call to avoid feeding the rake to lose the high............

*Sigh* I remember when $3/$6 online Stud-8 games used to be that good...

Oh you forgot the crowning moment... we're sitting around playing that HORSE game at the Mirage and in comes Jerry Buss, who signs up for a $70 sit n' go.
I'm already laughing because he's donking it up in that tournament. Well, about five minutes later, he's out of the sit n' go first!
So, he's standing at the podium, trying to sign up for a $20/40 limit game, but he's standing there holding his shoes in his hands! Those guys blew Jerry Buss out of his shoes!!!
