Here's the hand. Seat 1 folded and commented that I should have folded my A. I told him to bet his pair better. Eventually it got heated and I am on a 24 hour timeout from chat. Was my play that bad?

I think it's a pretty crappy call pre flop yeah tbh. Not to be rude, but look at it like this - you've represented strength opening utg +1, the immediate left has re raised you, thats even stronger, cos he's got like 6 people yet to act behind him.
I'd be giving most people a really tight range for a 3 bet here, and would a hand as strong as AQ suited.
So yeh, I mean, I don't like the pre flop call, I'm not clued up as to the opponent cos you didn't go into any detail or depth. But in the long run, I suspect this is a losing call right?
What are you hoping for ,and do you think you can play this hand profitably?
Results say it all, you put 600 more in oop with AJ, caught lightning in a bottle and didn't make anything . So yeh , poor call in my opinion.

Thanks Ciso. I thought at the time it was a lose call, but he was playing ABC poker, so I put him on 99 or lower and for $600, I wanted to see the flop. Then he proceeded to spned the next 20 minutes giving me crap so I looked up his ITM in Poker Stars tournies and it was 16%. Which I mentioned and he called the moderator and I got revoked.
So, IMO, not a great call, but not that bad to be chastised.
Thoughts?

What part of ABC has 99 or lower 3-betting an EP raise with the entire table still to act?
Preflop is terrible, getting sucked into chat war is lolz.

I was about to pop on here and defend myself, but after reading this site for over 2 years, and being beat down here also, next time I will just say opps, once Poker Stars re-opens my chat!
Thanks again, guess I have more to learn.

I’m sorry if some people are a blunt mate, we should treat new members a little more understanding. But I promise there is value to what’s being said.
The major thing I noticed is that you did mention Aces in his range:

Yes a PP is an option but if he’s holding AK or AQ you will be in trouble. Imagine he bet the flop what would you do? He’s representing the ace and he’s unlike to re-raise with AT, so you have to fold. But he could also be C-betting his PP, so you’re in a tough spot.
Pre-flop is a critical decision making time. Most of the money I make is simply by removing/minimising the really hard post flop decisions. I think playing marginal hands is one of the toughest things in poker.

First of all, don't leave. Half the people that post here are douchebags and what they say means nothing
I think what you need to avoid doing is putting your opponents on a range that you want them to have and try and concentrate on what their real range might be. Sure, most of it might beat your hand but that just makes it easier to make good lay downs rather than put yourself in weird and awkward spots.
As has been suggested, without empirical evidence to suggest otherwise, 3-betting 99 pre-flop out of position seems fairly unlikely to me and should probably be discounted from villain's range.

I am a teacher and football coach, so trust me, I can handle being treated bluntly! Like I said, I have been on this site a while and a member for over a year, so I really do take what you guys (and gals) say to heart.
I did leave one part of the story out that may change your advise to me. I have a kegerator and I was testing out a new keg!!
Thanks again.

I agree with Ciso here but I also know what OP was thinking. This was a $2 tournament. Your going to find more donks in these lower levels then you do with levels that Ciso and others here play. I can understand the call that OP made. Though it is a bad one and you will often find yourself getting beat in these situations, it isn't the most horible call ever made. Players in these levels will often re-raise with medicore hands hoping to hit the flop. Just watch this in the future because you can often find yourself getting beat by AA,AK or AQ.
My question to OP is this...if your in this situation and you bet...lets say villian raises or moves all-in...do you make the call here or lay it down? and why?

To be honest, I raised to steal, then got reraised $600, and figured I would go for the miracle flop (10-Q-K) or (A-A-J). When I missed the flop, I planned to flod to any bet. He checked and I hit the A on the turn so I put a feeler bet out.
I know it was a donk move, but I felt PC.
Again, love all your advise.

Telling bad players that they play bad is stupid. Telling bad players that you know their ITM/ROI numbers and that they're bad is retarded.

I think the testing of the kegerator had a lot to do with most of this!

One question OP...do you really care if you got chat banned?
Screw them I say. Chatting at an internet poker table sucks. Best to turn on IRC chat and chat with the poker brats of THP.

LOLOL...knobheads...I like that. I don't mind all you foreigners or the "knobheads". Hell I seldom take anything anyone on IRC says seriously. I just like the friendly banter.
