First ever Omaha Hand

Posted Mon Jul 13, 2009 12:21 pm GMT by Kemics
In preparation for the THP series i thought i cant just play the NLHE so i thought i'll give some omaha a shot. Having never ever played omaha, i cant tell my ass from a hole in the ground. So i thought id splash in the micros to get used to the format

did i totally donk this up?

Also if anyone could point me in the direction of some reading that would help my game, would be great. I mean like uber basic theory Smile

(edit) - just noticed diamonds sticky, will read that Wink any extra readings still welcome

I would have given this hand up on the flop, but i thought i could make someone with a flush pay me off if i drew to my boat.

All the stuff i can find on PLO says nut peddle only. Should i be trying to stack off with second nuts, or is this a bad beat?

Hand 1, pop it up on the flop. Your wrap is quite strong.

Hand 2, potting the flop is probably not going to accomplish what you want. Once the turn comes, though, you're not folding, like ever. Second set can be a killer in PLO, but you don't really have a choice sometimes.

Would you recommend any books or sources to learn about Omaha, DC? something like the equivalent of what Harrington is to holdem.

Im really thinking about moving to Omaha as my main game, seems more interesting than holdem, as ive got a bit bored of NLHE. The Omaha games sure seem soft enough. Was one guy sitting with $35 on .1/.2 table and a max buyin of $3

Bear in mind I have limited Omaha experience and I play a lot more O8 when I play but I'd say hand #2 is not the best starting hand and I think I'd let it go pre-flop personally even 6-handed. DC?

Hows my river play here, the board pairing on the river scared me a little so i figured id go for a block/value bet, but probably laying down to raise. However, should i be checking here to induce bluffs/keep the pot down? Or should i just pot pot away?

Geno, i thought it was a good hand because i can hit so many potential flops, but maybe i should be looking to get in a little cheaper with these sort of non-premium paired hands.

sorry for spamming so many hands up, finding the love for omaha Smile

last one i promise

If on the river i still have the nuts, is it worth checking the river OOP to give people a chance to bluff it, or should i just be value betting everytime?

You do realise that as everyone else is also preparing for the THP series, every reply you get will be the complete opposite of the actual 'correct play'!!!!!! Wink

Hand 1: Raise pot on flop. DC is right, the wrap with a pair is a powerful hand.

Hand 2: This is a good hand in PLO, Geno. Any 4 connecting cards is playable. I'm prolly not going to call with this hand to a raise and a pot rr, but as it stands I would play it. I wouldn't bet the flop but I would call a bet. At these small stakes I will not get away from a full house in this spot.

Hand 3: Not too sure about this river bet. If they were clever enough, they would realise this was a blocking bet and you had a straight all along and would raise this and make you fold, just like you said you would. This is far too small for them every to realise that though. You can probably get value from trip 8's but is he calling you down with just like top pair top kicker? I doubt it. I think you might be best just checking and give him the option to bluff it/value bet with the worst of it. If he has the best of it then you don't lose much and if he doesn't you prolly weren't getting paid off anyway.

hand 4: I'd rather just value bet this. Look at the calls on the flop when it's a rainbow board. With those turn and river cards, a lot of draws/two pair hands were made that may be scared to bet but will usually pay off. Value town those cunts.
