The Amazing Cowboys and the $200+ kill pot

Went and played some $3/6 tonight and was doing ok until I had my top 2 pair beat from a runner-runner flush (guy with bottom pair on the flop) with the guy calling multiple raises cold and then in another hand running into a flush after flopping the nut straight. Took my $140 stack down to a pitiful $44 after some 2-3 hrs. Table was breaking up so I went over to a full $3/6 table with a full kill (and the kill in effect). With $44 and a $6/12 kill pot I look down in late position to find the Cowboys. Very nice. I figure it's all or nothing...walk out with my head in my hands muttering something along the lines of 'never playing poker again...THIS TIME I MEAN IT' or go home up a few $.

Call, call, call, call, etc. (I don't think more than 1 person folded by the time it got to me) I go ahead and raise it up to $12 and get a few more callers and then a re-raise which I gladly cap. Flop is looking great. J-4-6. !!! I'm feeling good as for the first time in I can't remember how long there is no A overcard to my pocket kings (has happened to me *A LOT* it seems). Someone bets, raises, I re-raise, and I get re-raised and I'm all in and glad not to have to even think about the hand anymore. Tho with the 4-6 both spades I *KNOW* someone is on the flush draw. Turn is a 10 (not a spade) and someone bets and one of the re-raisers on the flop again re-raises. I'm now worried I've run into a set of J's. River is an 8 (NO SPADE!). Some more action (from the guy I've put on J's as he continues to re-raise and bet into people). Showdown. Guy I put on Jacks flips up his card and I see Jack...and....QUEEN!! Other person shows another Jack (I think J-K or something) a few folded on the river with the missed flush draw.

I turn up K-K for the pot and drag in something like $220 to put me sizeably ahead for the first time in a while. Two hands later I get AQs of hearts and flop the nut flush in first position--K-5-6 on the board. (After it is 2 or 3 bet pre-flop). I purposely peek at my cards to feign a draw as the players announce check, check check check, until someone fires off a $3 bet. I stare him down pondering a call (up until then I've been check-raising strong hands and smooth calling decent draws) and hesitantly throw out $3 (few other callers). Turn is a 5 which pairs the board (I'm now pissed I was slow-playing the nuts). Bet $6, get raised by the better and it's headsup. I call and the river brings another heart. Bet $6 and get raised again and now I'm really worried about the boat as this player has been playing fairly well and with BOTH the A and Q of hearts I don't know what could get this player so excited with 4 hearts on the board...save a boat. I call and he turns up K-J for a Jack high flush! I drag in another nice pot and have now filled up 3 racks of chips in less than 5 minutes! Managed to cash out for $283 and was quite amazed how I went from $44 --> $283 in something like the last 40 mins!

Congrats! Its nice to hear your Cowboys held up. Mine keep getting beat. I just lost my K,K againt J,J. He hit the jack on the river. I dont blame him for calling though. We both had overpairs the whole time. Highest on the board was a 9.

Well done.

I was playing in a tourney on Saturday and I was holding the ladies on the button. The first to act preflop bet out 500TC the next two folded and the next player went all-in 2000TC. I've never had any luck with the ladies so I laid them down. Everyone else folded except the original raiser who called the all-in bet. He was holding cowboys and the other was holding rockets. The flop came out K rag rag and the rocketman got no help on the turn or the river. The kings held up on this hand, but I felt the pain of the guy holding the aces. Better him than me though.
