A kill pot is usually created when a single player wins 2 hands in a row (that exceed a min pot size).

The kill pot follows and it can be a full kill (double stakes) or a 1/2 kill (50% greater stakes).

For example-3/6 full kill, a player will need to win 2 pots in a row of greater than $15-20. The next pot will be 6/12 w/ blinds of 1/3 but the winner will need to post $6 blind. All callers will need to call $6 ($3 big blind will need to add $3).

I dont know what the reason is, to make interesting hands or to somehow punish someone for success. Either way, I kinda like it. But I havent played too much kill.

thanks Dave B, i played 3/6 last night at Trump in Indiana and couldn't figure out the reason of the kill pot, but i do like it as well, especially if your the 2 time winner and then dealt a nice hand.......

Hey, how do you like the Trump? I was thinking of taking a ride out there. I live about an hour away. I usually go to the Aurora boat. I do well there, but there is always an hour or 2 wait and its about a 45 min drive most days.

As far as Kill games, UB has them. Don't know why seems to be an excuse to raise the pot for a hand.

I liked the Trump Poker Room. It's clean, well maintained, organized and non smoking. They have big screen TV's and it is separate from the main casino floors so there isn't a lot of traffic. This is what I liked the most. I haven't been to Harrah's yet so I have nothing to judge it against other than the Palms/Mandalay Bay in Vegas. Didn't like Palms but I liked the M. Bay.

The players seemed to be decent although I did see some people raising consistently with less than top pair.

I am pretty sure the reason for the kill pot is more rake for the house...

Agree on the greater rake comment. When I was in Vegas last month, I played some 4/8 with 1/2 kill at MB. I asked the dealer why they just didn't have a 6/12 game as I'm sure they could get people for it, he said Mgmt wasn't ready for it????? I asked for clarification but never got it. Anyway, I enjoy kill pot particularly when I'm playing a lower limit game than I want to (waiting for a seat elsewhere). I find that many players will get frustrated and play recklessly particularly when someone strings together three or four pots in a row. :D

I have to disagree on the rake's increase being the reason for the kill. I mean, the rake is the reason for everything...The casino does nothing that doesn't make it more money in the long run. Unless you are at the 3/6 game, though, the rake is pretty much getting maxed out anyway on most hands--at least at the two casinos above (that there's my stomping ground boys....I expect you to check in like Dave does before you come down and play). I think the real reason is to stretch people--get them a tad out of their comfort zone if they're new (this works to the advantage of the better players), or increase the liklihood of their feeling comfortable enough to push up their limits. Another function of the kill is to move money faster. The higher the money velocity the faster the seats empty, and emptying the seats allows new players in, which puts more money, ultimately, into the casino's purse.
