Newbie NL Chip Advantage Question

Posted Fri Jun 04, 2004 9:19 am GMT by cjtru
How are non-tournament NL games structured at the casinos? What I'm mostly wondering is whether a table with a maximum buy-in of, say, $200 can have a player who's been sitting there all day with a stack of 5,000 chips, who uses that chip advantage to crush the poor sucker who can only buy in for 200 clams.
Thanks for any info. I've played a good deal of low-limit Hold Em at Foxwoods, but I've never ventured into deeper waters (and I may never), so I'm curious how it works.

Yes-that is how it works.

Thanks for the info...this helps solidify my plan to avoid the NL casino games. I can't imagine why anyone would want to jump in to a situation like that, where they'd be at such a disadvantage.

Lots of opportunity to double up. I like a NL ring game w/ lots of big stacks.

Plus-$200NL max buyin, if you are concerned about getting pushed off pots, buy in for $50.

yea same as dave...i love coming into a game with lots of high stacks because they think they can bully you around. my friends hate it when i buy in after they have been playing for awhile because i am a VERY patient low stack player and will double or triple up the first time i enter a pot.

Yeah. The high stack starts pushing on you all the time, making it your whole stack to go, and you get a hand and BAM, double up...it's hard, but it can be pulled off. . .

yeah, the reason they got the big stack is because they are smart players. smart players are more predictable than the crazy wild player so no reason to be afraid of them. just watch for a while and see which kind of player he is
