Why no Poker Software?

Posted Fri Jun 04, 2004 10:37 pm GMT by ORGrinder
unless i'm missing something, no one has any pc software on the market that would allow for LAN play.

it's not that complicated... heck... i have a scrabble game that lets me host a match between another play, and look at all the fps's out on the market.

what's the deal? sure, tons of ppl play at the online casinos... but it would be nice to be able to play on some decent software with just your buddies... even if it isn't for real $.

I'm working on my single player simulation first. Looooooong way to go on that before I get even near internet play. But because it's java, I might be able to do it.

A couple of us posted about this same thing just a couple weeks ago. There's a very good amount of money to be made for the person who develops software that lets friends play online against each other with no house rake and customize things like chips amounts, blinds, etc . .

If anyone knows of such software, please let us know.

Some of the online rooms allow customizeable play-money tourneys and whatnot, but a fully customizeable game like this would be very, very cool.

Put me on the list of people to inform if such software is found ;P

I give it 2 years before my poker software becomes anything even resembling a game of poker- that is, unless I get help. Any programmers on the board that know more than me want to form some kind of coding group to create something like this? I can't do it alone, that is for sure.

Hey guys, so in the last week or so I decided that I should make a No Limit Holdem game, basically the user plays against computer opponents. I have been working on my game for a little less then a week, and have been making good progress. I intended to charge just $4.99 for the game, with an available demo. After reading the above posts, I realized that a program that allowed LAN or Internet play with friends would be pretty cool, especially if you guys say that there would be a market for it. I am strongly considering curving my game to including LAN/Internet play, which would however take the game longer to create. I am going to continue working diligently on the program, and it would probably take me about a month of work to complete, granted I work long and hard on it Shocked If you guys could give me any suggestions I would really appreciate it and it would help me out a lot.

It would be nice if the major sites, such as PartyPoker, Ultimate Bet, etc., would let you create your own private tournament for your friends where you could customize buy-in, blinds, payout structure, breaks, and everything else. They could still charge their normal entrance fee (10% or whatever it might be). I am surprised no site does this yet.

so am I. But i guess they figure if you wanted to play with your friends you would go over to their house.

a FEW of them do let you create private tables. most of them though, the tables are ring game style, not trny style... and the site makes it's $$ off the rake.

for the even fewer that let you create private tourneys, the required entry fee for them is so high, it's not really worth it.
