your post was a little unclear. Did the ace flop 2 pair, and then make his boat on the river? because the way I read it now, you had a boat with 8's full of aces, and all he had was trips.

my hole cards were pocket 8's and the player to the right of me (the player who won the pot) had A9o. after the flop he bet his pair of aces, hince flopped a pair of Aces, and i flopped a set of 8's. the Turn was no help, and the river was another Ace. His set of A beat my flopped set of 8's. do you guys think i should have tried to drain this guy out, or is that just a bad beat

No kidding...Ok, let's break this down.

You: 88o
Opponent: A9o

Flop: A,4,8 (doesn't matter entirely, what the cards other than 8 or A are)
Turn: 6? (Can't remember what you said, irrelevant though, no?)
River: A

GIVING HIM, 3 aces! But you, using the 2 aces on the board, PLUS your set, he only has a SET, notice, ONLY a set, compared to your full-house. You win the pot w/a better hand, I think we should clarify this before reall evaluating how you played it.
