pre flop raise

I'm the button with A8, I limp in, but one of the blinds raises. I always pay the extra bet to see the flop in this situation, because I figure if I wasn't ready to call a raise I shouldn't have bet to begin with. But then if an A flops and the blind comes out betting, I fold. The only time I will play is if I flop a set or 2 pair, which hardly ever happens. So I wonder, would I be better off kissing my first bet good bye, and folding to the pre flop raise?

A 8 is not a very good hand. Like you said, if you don't flop two pair or get a 8 high flop you're usually beaten. Even if an A falls you're probably out-kicked. I'd save your bets for later and let A 8 go pre-flop.
