Really Bad Beat by ME and the Whiner's reaction.... |

Greetings, I have a bad beat story from last night I would like to share with you to see your reaction to the poor behavior I was subjected to from the guy after whipping the biggest nut out on him I have ever seen
It was not the final table, but close to the final round. I was seated with 5 other players and in the small blind position with quite a nice stack of chips. Pre-flop I was dealt 9 10 of hearts and all folded before me when it was my bet. The blinds were getting up there so I decided to make a bold move against the big blinds chips and the ante's from the rest of the table that were in the pot so I matched the big blind and the raised him so he would be all in if he called.... He called.
Since he was all in we flipped over our cards to reveal what we both had to the table and as soon as I turned over my suited connectors there was a look of relief on his part as he had a pairs of K's. Then the flop came and I could not, nor could the rest of the table, for the life of me believe what happened...... 8, J, Q came up and they were ALL HEARTS! giving me the all mighty nut of a straight flush which quickly squashed all hopes of his little kings even denting my hand. At this point he stood up in disbelief and started swearing and yelling how "thats impossible, I can't F'in believe that, NO WAY!" I remained quiet except for thanking the other players at the table who were congratulating me for my hand while I raked the large pile of chips over to my stack. Sure this guy had swallowed a huge nut, but he proceeded to bitch, yell, and whine on how he "can't F'in believe the amateur poker going on in here and how dare I F"in raise him all in on 9 10 when he had a pair of K's!". I mean really .... this is the same guy that looked pretty happy that I raised him all in when I flipped over my cards and he saw that 9-10 against his K's.
What do you think of this situation? I often play suited connectors pending on my stack and who is left at the table and what point of the tourney it is....?
I did not wish to aggravate that person by telling him to quit whining and take his beat like a man and he eventually calmed down and left the table. When I have taken bad beats in the past I have not whined or even said a thing.... I hate playing with freaking whiners like that and I think people like that should be embarassed of their behavior. He called me an "amateur" and meanwhile he forgot that the tourney was a local tourney in a bar and not the freakin WPT or the WSOP. Plus I am pretty sure that Phil Gordon would have played my hand in the situation I was in. Would that jerk have called Phil a Gordon an amateur?
I am just pissed about playing with jerks like that. It makes the game NOT fun for all involved, and in my opinion it was HIM that was the "F'in amateur" and the baby. I was later at the final table with another guy from the table that this happened at sitting next to me... He took a pot down and knocked someone else out by staying in with 8 9 suited (he eventually drew 3 of a kind) and I leaned over and said "don't you know your NOT supposed to raise or make a guy go all in on suited connectors".... at this point he remembered the whiner at our other table and we both laughed as he took down his pot.

I can't say that his behavior was acceptable, but I can say that it would be very hard to feel the relief of seeing someone call your KK all-in with suited connectors and then see that flop. I can almost feel how my pulse would shoot through the roof if that happened to me. Of course, you have to learn to lose with grace as much as to win with it (learning the winning side is much easier though). If nothing else, I'd feel sorry for the guy having taken that kind of beat, but his behavior was unnecessary.
Great hand, by the way! I caught my second straight flush ever on Saturday night (I was holding big lick in the big blind). Oh what a feeling!

Ah that happened to me I had KK, dude raised, I re-raised he called. Flop was 6 7 10, he raised, I went all-in, he called with 77 for the set. I mumbled to myself for a little while, but made an effort not to whine.

i can see why the guy was pissed, but he definitely went over the line. he can get by with maybe one comment right when it happens, but then it's time to move on. i think i would have told him to sit his ass down and quit acting like a baby. actually, it would have been better if one of the other players did it, but i would have if nbobody stepped up.
good win for you, as long as you realise that you will not win with connectors against KK in the long run.

I had no idea he had KK... I was just trying to bluff him out and steal his blinds and the antes..... since he was on the shortstack and I had some coin...
I think it was a wise move at that point in the game and with just me and him heads up.
Thanks for your comments

thats the thing! you had no idea what he had, if he had 7-2 offsuit then it woulda been a great move on your part regardless of the flop!
you made a bluff to steal the pots and you got paid off big time.
I can totally understand the guy being pissed tho, but hey ho you made a move on him.
Would he have been in any way upset if flop had been KKA instead?
no i don't think so :p

thats what I say....
he was like... you shouldn't have put me all in with that....and all this other crap.
why not, i was making a move and got lucky for once...
right, had the flop been KKA would he have been like oh... you shouldnt have put me all in on that and given me back my money?
hell no!
F'in babies drive me nuts!
Thanks for the comments......

9,10 suited, late position is no disgrace and if u r trying to put him all-in on a semi-bluff, it's not a bad hand. Obviously, u caught a million to one shot but I belt it felt gr8 8)
Personally, I'd have let him get so far and then just told him to STFU and leave me to play with his money after wot he did. Poker is poker, shit happens, he just needs to grow up a bit.

I think the reason he was so mad was because of the way the flop just destroyed his hand. I mean look at it, what are the odds of drawing dead with pocket Kings vs 910s after JUST THE FLOP? Like 1 in a 250,000+? If the flop was 2 hearts and a heart hit on the turn he'd cringe and moan some, but the way the cards came it was just overkill. Seriously...who FLOPS a straight flush. I've flopped quads twice before, but I rarely ever see a straight flush (let a lone a straight flush using BOTH hole cards in the first place). I've been playing holdem now for like almost a year and I've had 1 straight flush and seen like ....3 others after hundreds of hours of play.

Hey, you both made the right play... you moved to isolate him in the small blind with a respectable hand and he just happened to have cowboys. He should have called and should have won, you were about a little less than a 4 to 1 underdog... but every 5 times that happens, you catch a lucky two pair, straight or flush (or, uh, both lol). You gave him a bad beat, but hey... shit happens.
And TRUST ME, one day someone will make a bold play on you when you have pocket aces, you will call, he'll turn up K4s and make his flush. It can happen, and it WILL happen if you play alot. It's how I won my first tournament.

Making a play and getting lucky is a ton better than calling down a huge bet with that same weak hand. You just happened to be making a play, and got caught, and then it worked out.
The guy had to be shitting himself when you moved in on him, so gotta take it in stride. He got what he wanted, and then the flop f*ck him.
I'd feel bad for him for a minute, then I'd probably want him to shut up or take it outside.
