So i find myself heads up in a tourney, 2nd place gets the buy in back, 1st takes the rest. Im sitting on a HUGE stack, im talking i had about 10k to his 2k, clearly the favorite, as he is not regarded as much of a player (mostly a calling machine). I wanna finish this thing off quickly, and i find myself the oppertunity near the first few hands. Im dealt J10 in the SB, come in for a modest raise, he calls. Flop comes 9s 8h 7s. I think to myself 'i have the nuts...the flush is a long shot' so i push em all in. he calls with his 7h2s. flop comes rag of spades...river? yep, another spade. hes doubled his stack.
After this, morale is low. Im dealt garbage hand after garbage hand, not even a pair to be found. I try to bluff a couple to steal the blinds, but hes a calling machine and would usually take it on high card, or some low pair. It seemed i couldnt catch a hand, and he would always catch at least a pair. So i think this guy must have horse shoes stuck up his ass or something with the luck hes gettin.
The stacks become about 5k for myself, and 7k for him, a big win could put this one down. Im dealt q7 in the BB, he limps, i make another modest raise, he calls. flop comes q 8 2, at this point, i figure i have to have the nuts, and i push it all in. he calls me with pocket 5's. i have him beat, finally ive redeemed myself. the deck owed me. turn comes a rag, its all mine, i can taste it. river....a 5...he had 2 outs, about 4% on the river if im not mistake, and he caught it. took me out......could not beleive this.
kind of long winded but i just had to vent somewhere...

Man, you have my sympathies there.
I always find that when playing against a loose-passive, as calling machines tend to be, the best way to screw them up is to plan for a check-raise, even if you hit something as modest as mid pair with a marginal kicker. That will throw him off, as he'll likely be forced to make a bet... and if he checks as well, (and there's no obvious draw on the board) you know he has absolute crap. That's your license to bet into him for all your worth and let him try calling you a bit more. Use that information Heads up, a loose-passive plays about 75% of his hands and will come at you with garbage (like 7h2s) quite often. See as many flops as possible as cheaply as possible - that's the best way to beat one of them. The most important thing to bare in mind is that you can get all the cards in the world to make your hand when you are playing against a passive player. Check-check until you get the hand you want, then push him all in. I guarentee, he won't be catching too many running flushes like that.
