Posted Fri Jun 25, 2004 12:09 am GMT by Nate PT
How long do you guys usually play when u go to the casino/card club? I only play 2/4 right now and usually play 2-3 hours depending on how im doing. Im gonna move up to 6/12 pretty soon and was wondering how long I should plan on staying. I usually get too frustrated after an hour or two playing 2/4 I think ill do much better when I move up to 6/12. Just wondering how long your sessions are....

4-6 hours. Longer if I am winning big, but after 5 hours I set a limit that I try not to go below. If I am up $200 and slide back to $150, then I am outta there w/ the next blind.

i have to play at least 6 hours for the reason i do not get comfortable for about 1 1/2 hours. after that i am ready to go. i guess what i am trying to say is let yourself get comfortable then start to play.

I absolutely hate to play less than 4, but sometimes I hit and bolt. Last week I sat down and hit three consecutive hands...up over $500 in less than 12 minutes. That was the time to leave...My God what it would have done for my hourly RATE! Anyway I went 3 more hours and won only a single hand, splitting that when someone counterfitted my straight. 5 hours, $62. My poker stats say I play an average of 4.2 hours, but I count sitting in at lower stakes games while I wait for others to open up as seperate games.

That help any?

I think a solid player, focused on improving his game (and his bankroll) should play 2 to 3 times a week minimum. You just can't make the money if you don't put in the seat time. That said, I confess that I have a deal with my wife that I'll only play a max 6 times a month. It sucks, but that's the deal--she doesn't give a damn how much I make, she hates poker, always has. I figure by the time my bankroll is about 80 grand and I can quit my job, maybe I can get her head wrapped around what it takes to play the game...meantime that at least gives me 20 to 30 hours a month to study, read, and work on my skills away from the table. At my current rate it'll take 5 years to build that kind of bankroll, but I'm thinking I'll be playing 20/40 with a little 30/60 and NL by next year and that could ramp up the curve.

mindgame it is good to know that someone else has to make deals with their wife. i have been married for a little over a year and my wife hates poker also. we have a similar agreement but when i play i get my money's worth. i play in a great room in new albany indiana but i see the same faces during the week. i have a friend who plays pro baseball in gary indiana, so that makes for a great reason to come to your neck of the woods. how many different poker rooms are their in your area? also are their long waits? let me know so i can hopefully make a road trip.

Wild! I'm wearing a Railcat's shirt I got for Christmas right now. I live up here and there are two casinos. Generally, I'd say you ought to go to Trump. Let me know the next time you're headed up here. My sons and I played last night and we could all go in to the casino together and have some fun. (If you're friend plays for them, you are right about their age, because one of their pitchers--Brian Houdak--was between the two of them at Andrean.)

I generally try to keep it in the area of 8 hours. This gives you time to be patient.

When I'm playing in our regular homegame whether it is 3/6, 6/12, or Pot, I usually go for 6-8 hours regardless of how well (or not) I'm doing, I'm very patient. When I go to Atlantic City (monthly) I usually stay at the Borgata and it is even better now because they have increased their Poker Room comp rate such that if you play 8 hours a day (any limit) on Sun -Thurs, your room rate drops to $39 a night, can't beat it, especially with how great their rooms are. Obviously, if I bust my daily session amount, I'll stop much sooner. 8)

You can't get her up to twice a week? Smile
Dude, it sucks that she hates something that you like, but at the same time, you have to put it to her like . . . "Do you like construction? No? Well that's cool - you don't have to do it. You just have to let me do it so we's can eat."

You seem like one of the better players here - it's a shame for you to waste any time...

Three to four hours. The most I've ever played was around eight hours. I played until around 1:30 am and had a 7:00am flight to catch. My head was already spinning but I did think about just playing until it was time to go.
