ever see anyone get killed in a poker room?

Posted Thu Jul 01, 2004 6:46 pm GMT by Flamingo
...well, i did just 2 weeks ago. i was at a "vegas nights" in a big city of ohio. 2 guys walk into the "hall" where we were at with shotguns to rob the 80+ ppl there. this is the second time i've been in a "hold up" situation in this city.
of course, the security guard is in the crapper at this point. so i'm on the ground with the rest of the smart ppl trying to dial 9-1-1. well, the guard then comes out of the crapper(which puts him directly behind one of the gunmen) long story short...he shoots one of the guys right in the friggin head. the other one bolts out the door.
to say the least it's shaken me up a bit. i dunno if i could play outside of a casino again...
anyone else ever see this sort of thing?

btw...this is my first post here after reading here for about 2 months. great place you've got here.

If ever there was a reason why playing online has advantages to live play, that may be one.

Thats pretty shitty!

my brother made a good point about this "incident"...he said the fact that someone finally got killed trying to rob a "vegas nights" will probably keep someone from attempting it again for a long time. dunno if i put too much hope in that theory though.

doubt it. Thats like saying the cops that park on the corner down the street from me will force the drug dealers to relocate. Ya they relocated alright, inside Razz

There are a few other reason besides dodging bullets.
1. You can play in you underwear if desired
2. Drinks are much cheaper
3. Dealer never screws up
4. No tipping the dealer
5. Can hit the bathroom without missing a hand if timed correctly
6. Multiple tables can be played
7. You contol the smoking/no smoking policy
8. Don't have to deal with the body oder of the slob seated next to you
9. Any physical tell you may have is undetectable
10. You can say anything about any opponent's mom with out worrying about getting jumped in the parking lot. (I never do this though)

I do that anyway!

Wow. I have to say that must totally suck. I don't know about Ohio, but if you tried that here, you'd get pumped full of bullets before you had the shotgun all the way out. Something to be said for a gun-crazy state full of cowboys. I myself carry at least a .32 and a razor in any backroom game where I don't know everyone in the room. . .

You guys ever read TJ's book on Championship Pot and No Limit Hold 'em? The last chapter is a bunch of stories he wrote that have happened to him. One story he tells about a bar he was at. He saw a high stakes game being played in the back and asked the guy at the door "If I get lucky and win, am I gonna make it out of here." The guy at the door replied, "In all the years I've been doing this, nobody ever asked me that. Maybe you should sit this one out." So TJ left. :D

Well, I've never had to take the gun out in a poker game - I've only pulled it twice, once to break up a fight and once on a guy I was serving a paper too . . . the razor I've shown to a couple people who got up in my chest over cards . . . most people have only seen one in a movie and tend to . . . blaunch . . . would be the word Jane Austin would use. . .

Just wondering... Is it really common for people to bring guns and razors to games?

Posted Fri Jul 16, 2004 11:35 am GMT by Replic
Only when you play ReadEm. Only when you play....

BTW, they get itchy fingers when you get paranoid too.
