im planning a trip to the turning stone casino in new york. has anyone been there? i'm 18 and recently became interested in playing texas hold em. What are the buy-ins like? Am i able to play in a no-limit hold em tournament for less than $100? If so, how often are tournaments starting? Can I buy in to a no-limit hold em game with only $100? If anyone knows anything about the poker at this casino, please let me know.

Thanks :D

I go there a few times a month. About 2 hours away so its not a nice trip. But, The have TH tourneys almost every day. They have a website. Check it out i forget the address, But they have tournement days, times and buy ins. They have all sorts of limits so you will be safe with $100 as long as you outlive the bad beats at that level. 8)

i went there a few weeks ago, personally i think the place is borderline trashy

you can certainly PLAY with $100, though i wouldnt recommend it. they dont have a no-limit game running all the time, and when they do there is quite a wait. don't waste your time on the low limit tables, as anyone will tell you the rake is ridiculous, and all sorts of randoms will be playing and calling you to the river. real hard to beat. as for the tournaments, they have regular $50 buy-in NL tournaments with unlimited $25 rebuys whenever you fall beneath $300 in chips (i think its $25, might be 20). i wouldnt really recommend playing it unless youre a fan of all-in fests. they start you off with $300 in chips with $25-25 blinds, levels increasing every 15 minutes. basically, any hand you want to play you need to push all-in until there are around 10 people left in the tournament (usually around 100 enter) at which point you MIGHT be able to play some real poker. i must say though, with all the rebuys the prize pool does end up pretty large...but in my opinion not worth it as the luck factor is much larger and any skill you might have will not come into play.

if you've never been to a casino before and just turned 18 it might be cool for you to check out, but i wouldnt get your hopes up. if you do go, youd be best to stick to the NL table if you can get in or medium-high limit; that's the best advice i can give you - the tournaments are a waste, especially if you are on a limited bankroll.

/end rant

*edit - now i see that this topic was started about a month ago. well, hopefully i can be of help to someone who reads this in the future. lol.

I didnt completely read all the the previous posts so if i repeat something sorry. TS is pretty much a joke...dilemma says trashy....I'd say sleezy. The place itself is clean and such, but dont expect a whole lot "customer first" attitude. Comps are absolutley horrible!!! The poker room is tiny....i'd say maybe 20 tables tops and you trip all over yourself if you want to move.

Yes you can play at 18 there but there is no alcoholic beverages. Its in the middle of nowhere too

I would recommend going to the new casino in Niagra falls. I havent been there myself, but several friends have and they say its pretty cool.

They do, however, have a no-limit table which is a $100 max buy-in. Havent played in it myself but heard its a decent game.

The thing about this place is that it used to be great for poker players to play. Now, there, people slop around at even 3-6 limit hold em. You *cannot* play poker there if you want to play limit. There are far to many sloppy players to slop around with 2-4 in thier hand and a bunch of average players who are getting killed by rivers, even if they play aggressive and check raise or bet into players. Dont go unless you plan on playing no limit holdem, 50 dollar max. buy in. Seriously.
