Did anyone else want to strangle that damned Brit when watching this?

oh! oh! which damn Brit?
Posted Wed Jul 07, 2004 7:30 am GMT by Dave B
Yeah he was a punk. What is the mentality of being an amatuer at the final table and talking smack to one of the best players out there.
Posted Wed Jul 07, 2004 7:37 am GMT by Replic
Then he had the nerve to say that hold 'em has no skill in it. What an idiot.

He was tolorable until I heard the "no skill required in poker" comment. Yeah right... no skill when you're dealt easy to play cards consistantly throughout a tourney.
Geno,
You're geographically closer to him than us.
Go find this guy and teach him lesson or two.
Thanks....oh and... God save the queen.
:D

The whole thing was boring. 3/4 of the tourny was "ALL IN!!!"

I think that was his point and he wants the image of a lucky player.

Last night showed the first NL holdem game and a 7 card stud game. Since we already knew who was going to win them it was decent at best. At least they're showing other games besides holdem this year but the stud game was kind of slow in compairisn. And yeah it was espn.

Next one is at 9 pm, ESPN , July 13th.
Geno - you should copy the ESPN scheduel and post it on the front page for quick access.

I agree. I'm looking forward to seeing some Omaha though. I don't play it much and I'm not very good at it, but it might be fun to watch.

pretty sure it was a $2,000 buy in but yeh I really didn't want him to win. He just got the cards

did you hear him in his little interview where he said he found poker boring? he is a pompous little brit.

I just watched this, i dunno whether it was $200buy in $2000 or $1500 but i think we'll call it event 1 huh?
The guy, James Vogl, mannnnnn i dunno about strangling him but i'd love to play him. his moves were terrible, some of his calls were ridiculous, hell he shouldn't even have been playing most of the cards he did! thankfully the times he did play bad cards or make bad plays he did seem to get caught on them
Couple of things, i think his comment about "no skill required" was that when he said his mum coulda won with those cards in about an hour and a half? at least he realised that with the cards he got they pretty much played themselves. At least he had the grace to admit it was mostly luck unlike some player who think they are gods gift when they punk out on a few hands.
I think some of his table chat was inappropriate, usually tho, when you're such a huge chip leader tho, anything you say will be taken badly.
All in all i think a very poor event 1 champion. I just hope he follows his dads advice now and does get a job! I doubt we will ever see him again.
Final thing, this is a little personal and some of you may feel i am being a little touchy here, but do you think we could stop using the word "Brit" as a derogatory term? I have no objections to the word itself, I am a Brit! I am proud to be a Brit! please feel free to describe me or any other brit as a Brit! But when you add pronouns like "pompous" and "little" (the guy looked to be well over 6 foot btw ) and the like then i start to take offence.
after all, we never heard anyone describe moneymaker as a fat arrogant yank now did we?

Good point.
Would "pompous little Pom" work better for you? :D

hey moneymaker is a fat arrogant yank...i don't like him either because tv makes him look like a great player when he just got extremely lucky just like this vogl guy. and i wasn't saying brit as a derogatory term...he is british, hence...brit.

sorry to go off topic a little but i just started thinking about this. do you guys think moneymaker watches the footage of him playing at the wsop and thinks he is playing good? or do you think he is embarrassed to watch it because of the dumb calls he made that turned into lucky calls? i would love to be in his shoes but even if i won i would still feel weird having a wsop bracelet and not feeling like i played that well.

To win the WSOP you have to be lucky, TV makes him look like a lucky player not a great player. Moneymaker has proven himself to be a good card player. So relax.

Moneymaker knocked out a lot of excellent players who called him with worse hands. Obviously, if he had gotten crap cards, he wouldn't have won. But, he did pretty well. Unless skill isn't involved in poker ...
