Which do you guys think is the best poker book out there. I think the best one for Hold'em is Slansky's Hold'em poker for advanced players. I also think the T.J Cloutier book is pretty good. I have never read Super System by Brunson but I've heard good things.

I read Super System last month and its helped my game extremely. I haven't won my neighborhood game in six months, and my first time playing after reading SS, I won the whole thing.

Super System II is coming out in August (I think) so I'm definately gonna buy that one (I havn't read the original), otherwise I've only read "Championship NL and PL Hold'em" by T.J. Cloutier which I didn't find to be all that great... It's not even close to being the 'poker-bible' it claims to be.

I'm assuming Super System II is just going to be an updated version of Super System, right? Not a "continuation" (the way Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players is for Hold'em Poker)?

What is your best recomendation for a online holdem book? I have found that there is a great difference between online and Casino poker.

Internet Texas Holdem by Matthew Hilger, but the book concentrates mainly on full ring games.

Thank crack,
I bought that book yesterday and it looks very good. I play at Party Poker and 10 ring games is about all that you have, so this should be a great book. Thanks for the info.

I have finished the book today. I found a lot of the concepts can be applied to poker in general and more specifically shorthanded ring games, with full ring games being the books specialty. All limit of course.
I actually have a request. I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations on a book specifically for shorthanded limit ring games? This is where I want to be playing. These books could be soley for the internet or live play, low limit or high limit. Just a good book on shorthanded limit ring games.
Anyone?

I've read two poker books at two complete extremes.
First, I read Phil Hellmuth's book. "Playing Poker like the Pros"
I thought it would be a good investment considering Hellmuth is currently one of the better players in the game today. Little did I know that instead of him teaching anything, he was just going to brag about pots/hands he's won without actually teaching anything. For instance he talks about how he laid down pocket kings to pocket aces. I wouldn't mind the example if he would have told the reader WHAT he read off the other guy. Instead he just complimented himself about how good the read was.
He further explains examples throughout his book, something that is important to a good poker book....but without being descriptive enough. He also only mentions 15 hands he plays and not once mentions other options or how to play in short handed games/heads up play or betting in different situations. Throughout his discussioon on NLTHE he only discusses hands which he has won. It seemed to me like his entire premise for the book was to brag about how good of a player he was instead of teaching the reader.
At the opposite end of the spectrum was the second book I picked up, Doyle Brunson's Super System. This amazingly informative book was truly worth the expensive price tag. Doyle explained many different situations, many different hands, many different playing styles, and even many different times to bluff at a pot/not to bluff at a pot. His book looked at NLHE from so many different angles that it truly gave the reader a great overall feeling for both the game and the differnet types of opponents you will be facing.
Those are the only two I've read and Super System was by far a much better read than Hellmuth's book.

crack- i've never seen an entire book devoted to short handed games, but i bought sklansky's t.h. for advanced players (even though i'm not one), and i noticed there is a chapter on short handed games. After I read it, I'll let you know if its any good.

Thanks Krakajak. Don't forget to tell me how the book is in general. It is one on a small list of current books I will be ordering. Once I win some cash that is.

I, along with many others I'm sure, have sklansky's said book and it's a very solid book and is a for sure read. It's meant for limit games from middle limit up to about 40-80. A lot of the advice offered in the book won't really relate to low limit games as the players skill level in low limit games isn't as high and they'll play a ton of cards and get lucky a lot. I mean the info is still good to read and would relate to even low limit games but it's meant to be used for a bit higher level.
The book is solid all around and the short handed section is also solid but it's just one of the small parts which makes up this well rounded book.
If you read any review on it you'll probably see that everybody agrees it's a top notch book. Only complaint is that some people find it too hard to read as slansky and malmuth aren't writers but poker players. I didn't find the info that hard to read but I'll agree it's not the easiest read out of the poker books I've read.
