I have a group of guys with whom I play poker on a regular basis. We really enjoy each others company and although we're not into "high stakes" games, we all look forward to out game nights.
Unfortunately, a couple of guys in our group are moving soon. However, I was thinking that there may still be a way that we could get together to play poker. I'm talking via the internet. Of course, we'd want to limit the participants to just us.
If anyone knows of a way to accomplish this, I'd REALLY be interested. Maybe there's an "online poker room" that we can use. Unfortunately, the only ones that I've seen are open to the general public. Or, maybe there's some kind of software that I could buy and then host the game on my computer.
At any rate, if anyone can help us out, we'd really apprieciate your imput.
Thanks in advance!
Bob
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

My brother is a computer engineer and was talking about creating the software that could support players on a LAN. He claims it shouldn't be too hard to write.

I don't know of any software that is currently out there for this but we've been talking about it on the forum here for quite a while and the last I remember I think someone had a work in progress going on, perhaps written in java. Hopefully someone will come and shed some more light on this but I don't think it will be long before someone creates wot u r after

depending on how many people you can get to play, some of the online poker sites will host a private tourney for you. Check out alohapoker.com, I know for sure that they do it. You just need to send them an email with a time and password to use and they'll set it up for you. Here's a link to the page about private tourneys http://alohapoker.com/privatetables.html
(shameless plug)And if you do decide to set up there and wouldn't mind referring somebody, you can put JL74 as a referral. :D

Hey Bob, I am in teh process of coding exactly the program you are looking for. You aren't the only one out there seeking such software, thus I have decided to take on the project. I have been in works and hope to have the software launch within a month allowing LAN/Internet play with up to 10 buddies. Host will be allowed to costumize all aspects of game, including starting chips, blinds, rebuys, etc. I'll keep you posted when it comes out.
