Hey, new to forum. This is my first post. Thought I'd share this bad beat. Last monday I was in a small tournament (14) players. (2) tables of 7. In the big blind, I had 7-8 offsuit. Preflop, just checked it. There was one other player besides the small blind in the pot. Flop came 7-7-Q. Small blind checked, I checked, Last positioner bet it. Small blind just called, I just called. 4th street came with 4. Small blind checked, I checked, Last positioner raised. Small blind and I just called. Fifth street, 8. Small blind checked, I checked (knowing last positioner was going to bet and I could check/raise). Last position did raise - about half my stack. Small blind folded, I re-raised all in (about double the 1st bet). He called it and turned over pocket 8's. OUCH! Guess that's what I get for trying to trap with my trips on the flop...

Exactly.
First, you had 7-8 offsuit right?? Someone could've easily had a better kicker, say 7-J, and you're toast. That's why a decent re-raise on the flop would've been a good thing, to see the strength of other's hands. Honestly, if I would have pp 8s, and the flop would come 7-7-Q, and someone re-raised, I would most certainly fold.
It's not the guy's fault, you can't say he chased or whatever, nobody tested him. He got a free turn and a free river, he just caught the miracle card.
I might not be right, but this is just my humble opinion.
