THE Most Horrible Beat In The History Of Poker EVER!!!

Posted Tue Aug 10, 2004 7:58 pm GMT by wEbMaStEr
I'm sorry it's just too horrible to post in a public forum such as this!
I mean minors come in here ya know?
Even for hardened adults it may cause organ malfunctions, crippling injuries and possibly even death if they were to look at it!
No really i mean it!
I wish i could show you but you'll just have to trust me!
It was HORRIBLE!!!
anddddddd it was 3 away from cashing!
I'm telling you!
It was bad believe me!
I will have nightmares for weeks!

Shocked

Exclamation

Maybe i could split it into small parts and disperse it across several forums to lessen its impact?

lol i dunno?
My 1st reaction was to run in here and bitch and moan about it, right after i chewed out the guy involved and 1 smart mouth smug gloating b*****d who wasn't even in the hand.
I got the hand history and was all ready to stick it up here when i suddenly stopped and thought about how boring i find bad beat stories and how pointless they are, and how yes i did make a mistake in the way i played the hand.
It was truly a horrible beat tho so i may post it as a lesson of what not to do in this specific situation.
I will have to think on it some tho....

ok i'm posting it.....
bear in mind this is $10 rebuy #1 gets $4k+ places are paid down to #45 who gets like $60 or so. There are 49 people left at this point, I had been sitting about 20th in chips but had laid down a pot to this same guy a few hands before.
I got like 25k and he is tourney leader with close to 200k.
Most important thing here is that this is 4 places from cashing!

So the big stack calls my 4x bb raise with J7 offsuit!
normally i would be happy with this cos he is gonna pay me off.
On this occasion however he catches the million/1 straight on the flop suckers me in and knocks me out.
The only thing i can think that i could have done differently, apart from not playing the hand, would have been to go all in preflop, that possibly could have made him think twice about playing J7os but i dunno? he had me covered and woulda had the chance to knock me out.
i could have also checked postflop, but thats not an option cos its just giving out more free cards.
In future in this situation, i will just not be playing the hand unless it is AA and even then i will have to think long and hard about it.

I had something similar happen to me last night on Pacific. I had AQh in late position, and I was a little short-stacked. Chip leader at the table limps in front of me, I raise to 5x BB and everyone folds but the big stack who calls me. Making a long story short, I went all in on the turn with a small pair on the board and a nut flush draw, and he called since he had made two pair with his 36o!

Now, I have to believe there's nothing I could have done to chase him out if he had been willing to call that size raise with that hand, but I made the big mistake when I went all in with nothing but overcards and a draw. Sometimes, when you look at a hand, there's nothing you could have done differently to change the outcome, short of throwing your hand away.
