I was playing in an online game last night and got dealt pocket 2's.
The flop came K, 8, 4
Some people placed a bet...
It was quite a loose table, plus there wasn't any raising going on, but I would have normally folded now. I would have guessed that someone must have me beaten.
However, for some reason I just knew that the next card would be a 2.. don't ask me how, it might have been the Guinness, but I really felt sure??
I bet and sure enough a 2 came on the turn.
I went on to win with the set of 2's.
Has anything like that ever happened to anyone else?
It happened a bit later over a straight. I felt sure I would hit my straight draw but I folded when it didn't come on the turn. However, sure enough, it popped up on the river and I would have won a substantial pot if I'd stayed in....
Strange eh?

Yeah sometimes my 'premontions' work and other times they don't and I always kick myself for listening to my heart instead of my head

Yep.. the trouble is when you think you are having a premonition.. but really its just the whiskey kicking in... next thing your down to the river and your holding rags...
:D

Lucky you, and unlucky. I have a lot of hunches but they're only right a bit over 50% of the time

I play online quite a bit, and these sites deal you the two cards, but they take time getting around to you. Quite a few times, I get a facecard, (Jack through Ace) on the first, and I think real hard....(pair it, pair it, pair it). It happens quite a bit, but I don't think it has anything to do with premonitions...just a good ol recipe that calls for 1/2 odds plus 1/2 wishful thinking. Of all the times you had a pocket pair that didn't hit on the flop and you fold, how many times has that card hit on the turn or river? Same thing for a gutshot draw when the flop is raised and you have to call 2 bets, but you fold instead because implied odds are ruined? Sure enough, seems to happen more often than not because those are the times you remember.... you don't always remember the times it doesn't hit where you saved a ton of money!

Yeah, it happens. There's a whole lot of calculations that go on in your subconciousness, a lot more than in your conciousness. Sometimes, your gut feelings are trying to tell you something that your eyes don't see, and that's exactly what happened to you, you listened to them and you won.
The brain is extremely powerful, but no one understands it really...

Cayouche, very true. If we could tune into our brains perfectly and harness the power of it then it would make for a very handy tool. Unfortunately, you also have to "what if" voice which tends to interrupt the brains advice a little.
Still, there is probably some good arguments for practising some kind of 'zen poker'...
