Need some advice on loose tables

Posted Fri Aug 20, 2004 5:51 pm GMT by PokaJoka
A few nights ago i was playing at a 6 person NL table. Most of the people had either between 100-250 dollars. The problem was that this table was very very loose. I bought in $200. THIS WAS ONE OF THOSE NIGHTS. Those nights where you absolutely get no premium hands. These guys werent particularly good, and they were playing crappy hands most of the time. And the funny thing was, most of the hands were on draws, but they kept betting big. Luck caught up with them and they made trips or something unbelievable on the river. Now my dilemma is this: should i play loose and play some average hands knowing that many of these guys play bad hands. But how do i know if they eventually hit that AK or JJ. Another thing to note was that they kept betting big pre flop (ex:30 bucks)

I find that with loose tables you will often get outdrawn, obviously...But you should'nt loosen up too much because you won't win that much. Play the premiums agressively and if you hit on the flop make them pay alot to see the next card, this should in the long run win you more. Limp in with some connectors like 78, 89 etc, if it's cheap and maybe you can outdraw them :D . Hope this helps.

the most profitable way to play is the opposite way that the table is playing.. if everyone is playing loose then you have to tighten up cause you won't be able to bluff that easily.. i find tightening your table image.. letting everyone know that you're only playing the best hands against them.. show them a hand or two where you had two pair and you bet at them hard.. seeing this.. even if they don't consiously make note of it will still linger in the back of their head.. over the course of the night they'll tighten up, at least with you they will.. but don't just play premium hands.. play lower suited connectors.. trash hands are still trash hands.. make big raises.. big enough to make them look at their cards again before they call.. make them think twice about playing trash against your raise.. make them respect you when you're in the pot.. when you bet.. bet the amount of the pot.. (say you raise 4x the BB to say 20$.. you get 4 callers thats 80$.. when you bet bet 80$... don't come out swinging with a dollar bet no one will care.. with a tight table image they will begin to respect you.. i had the same problem at my home game.. now.. no one wants to play a pot with me.. i get alot of foldouts.. they think i won't play anything less than A-K.. and thats what i like.. you get to loosen up alot when you get your image down.. you get to pick up a lot of pots when you miss your flop..
