Online Poker Room Startup |

I am very interested in starting an online poker room. I would like any information anyone could give me.
Here is some information you may need:
A few internet savvy friends of mine have decided to investigate the possibilities of making our own online poker room. We are not looking to bring in millions and millions of players, although we wouldn't mind. Our goal is to start a site that we can promote to our friends in other areas (old college buddies and such)and to players we have met in tournaments held in our local area. Basically a site where local players can play other local players. We would like a nice set-up (the ability for players to open an account using netpay or something - tournaments - a big time site for a small area). Pretty much like the big online poker rooms but on a local level.
We also have a few concerns regarding gambling laws in the United States, specifically NY.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

lol! Yeah, I'd have "a few concerns" myself if I was planning to set up an illegal online gambling site in a country where it's illegal. Basically the gambling law states that your site would be 100% illegal in every possible way and would be shut down before you were even able to get it started. And also, there is another thread on here about a current bill to ban American citizens from playing online poker at off-shore sites. . . . Probably not the time to try to set up a gambling site in New York State, don't ya think?
It sounds like a nice idea, dude. But you should move to a more gambling-tolerant place like the UK if you want to start up something like that.

take off assclown. i don't know what your gripe with him is and frankly i don't give a monkey crap. DO NOT BRING GRIPES FROM ELSEWHERE HERE. he's been a stand-up guy here and that's all i concern myself with. if this is the way you act then you ain't welcome, so don't let the doorknob hit your ass on the way out.

how much $$$ do you have behind your idea?? if the number doesn't contain six digits, i'd suggest you raise some capital before proceeding.
also, i would exhaustively research your legal standing before getting into this.

EmpirePoker, PartyPoker, and a few others all use the same engine from a company called iGlobalMedia. They run thier stuff from one of the one of the "Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake, Canada". I have looked into this before and looks like you just have to make (or licence) a front end and put up some up front money with them.
If you are truely serious, I ll send you my note from my phone calls. I decided to drop the idea, since the promotion $$$ were likely to more than the take for the first year or more.

Along with having capitol to fund the startup, licensing, marketing, etc.., you will need to offer something a bit unque in order to single yourself out from the growing number of poker rooms springing up. It seems that having pro players invloved and/or endorsing the site wouldn't hurt either. It also appears that this area of the poker boom may be reaching a saturation point. JMHO.
