Help with a betting question

Posted Mon Aug 23, 2004 8:23 am GMT by ZIPPY
I get most of it but would appreciate a quick answer...

The blinds are a given, but how many times can one round of betting go round the table being raised and reraised in NLHE or any poker come to that.

You call, someone raises, the raise gets called, and then get raised. It is back to you... You raise you are called and raised... How does this work?

What is the maximum number of imes this can happen. I know that practically it is rare, but is there a defined rule about it?

Thanks

I don't think there is a set number of raises if you are playing no limit.

Limit games however can vary. For instance, I live in Florida and Florida law states that "...max bet of $2 and maximum number of raises is three". However, I've heard mention in books of some limit games where you can keep raising until you run out of chips.

So to answer your question, I'm not sure. I think it all depends on where you are playing.

In the limit games I have played there are either 4 bets max or 4 raises max (5 bets). Some included the blind as a bet, others dont.

However, at every casino I have seen, heads up there is no limit it how many times you can raise back and forth (I went all in heads up at a limit table for $300 once to save the time, I was called, we both had the nuts).

BTW-I wish online allowed unlimited raises heads up. I have played w/ a lot of people that I believe would reraise me 10 times even though I was holding the nuts.

when you say "the game is limited to three raises" does that mean

- blind
1 - i raise blind
2 - you raise me
3 - i raise you

??

is this also 3 raises:

blind
1 small blind raises
2 - big blind raises
3 - button raises

??

if you hear the word raise, it counts as one raise. most games its 4 or 5 raises per round of betting. i guess you could have a cap in raises in no limit if everyone keeps raising the minimum. not sure, someone usually raises enough to end the hand or put someone all in

Most limit games have a four bet cap so your example is correct.
