Oh boy John, that's a close one. He had a good approach shot but I'm not sure the judges are going to like it.

I'd tend to let this one slide, after all it is a free open source product. That kind of stuff is way over my head, but I'm sure someone here might find it useful.

Thank you Nut Flush!

Folks, feel free to ask if you have any questions.

okay... question...

SCREEN SHOTS. i like to see them before i try any piece of software. got any?

Posted Wed Sep 01, 2004 10:39 am GMT by wagerlabs
I do not have any screen shots at the moment. My demo server is down. I didn't realize that people would want to see screenshots so I'll post them this week. It basically looks like party or paradise which is where the user interface was copied from.

blah, i hate the party UI, but it's open source so I could change it eh?

One thing that worries me though.... do we really want poker software to be open source? Seems like it would make it much easier to find a way to cheat the system.

Yes, the UI can always be changed. Making the software open source does not help you cheat the system. It's designed in such a way that only the information needed to display the state of the game is distributed. You won't get other players' cards since the poker client does not need to know them -- it displays them as hidden. The deck shuffle is also random.

In a sentence, you can only cheat by modifying the server and running a rigged poker room. I think this will be discovered rather quickly, though.

How'd you construct the deck? I was thinking of coding up a shuffle by making an array of objects with a suit and a number, and actually physically shuffling them by having an algorithm essentialy cut them, then suffle them together by randomly moving a card above or below its counterpart across the cut...use OOP to make a deck inside the program, in other words. . . is that how the big boys do it?

Why don't you download the source code from http://sourceforge.net/projects/openpoker and see for yourself? Wink

Cheers, Joel

JC's Magical Mod Edit-fixed a typo in joely's link...sourceforget.net is a different site allllltogether.

You may be long gone but was wondering if any linux versions were going to be available.

Posted Mon Mar 14, 2005 5:19 pm GMT by wagerlabs
Yes, it's quite possible. Mac OSX and Windows will be first, though.

Linux will depend on how may people decide to pay for it.

Check http://wagerlabs.com from time to time and note that the coming release will be commercial, meaning that I will run a free server but anyone else will need to purchase one.
