Moron catches runner-runner |

Me and like 4 other guys were just playing a $5 buy in cash game. Playing for dimes, blinds at .10/.20. I get dealt A/Jo. Everyone infront of me calls the big blind. I raise to a dollar. One kid infront of me calls. The flop is A-T-rag. The kid checks, I raise a dollar, he calls. I'm thinking I have this hand won right here. The turn, J. I am just loving this. Top two pair. I realize the straight draw is out there but I don't put him on any paint cards. I raise another dollar. So I have 60% of my stack in right now on like the second hand of the session. The river is a Q. I just knew it at that point. That little SOB had a K. He bets like .50 and I call. Before the cards turned over I knew I lost. He ended up holding K-8o. I flipped. I turned at just looked at him like WTF are you calling 3 raises with K-8. I had him crushed pre-flop. He also ended up calling with J high in a similiar situation later with a gut shot straight draw on the board and got cleaned out.
Another runner-runner story.
I was playing a $5 tourney at a friends house. Like 11 guys. I was knocked out in 10nth position. I play like crap that night. The last 3 guys left is one real tight player, one loose and aggressive player and one absolute moron. The loose player gets dealt pocket 3's. I am standing behind him and and he shows me. I motion the big raise nod to him. He bets about a 1/3 of his stack. The moron calls with K-Q. The tight player also calls. The flop is A-3-rag. The loose player moves all-in and the tight player folds, the moron calls. The turn is a J. The river is a 10. My friend just started bitching at the winner. Calling him an idiot. The kid replies with, "It was a good hand!" I just stand there. I said "pre-flop it was good hand but not after a player goes all-in not on the shortstack with an Ace on the board." He didn't even think about someone having trips, or an Ace. He just called because K-Q were two paint cards.

good stories, but i have some advice you may not like regarding the portion of your second story i have quoted.
if i were one of the other two players still at the table, you and i would have had very harsh words at the very least. you should NOT be giving any advice whatsoever to someone who is involved in a hand. one player to a hand, no exceptions. if the guy asks you AFTER the hand is over what he should have done, that's entirely different and you may advise him if you wish. but not during play.

I didn't give the kid any advice at all. Nodding the head at someone in a poker game is not advice. If you can find a rule that says I can't then I will admit I am wrong and you are right. At the level of the games I play, telling kids what to do wouldn't even begin to help someone. The recklessness and calling that goes on is stupid. Most are just beginning to play.

umm, aren't you admitting it here??? nodding at someone encouraging them to bet IS giving advice and it is not allowed as it is cosidered signalling. i'm not trying to bag on you, just trying to help keep you out of trouble in the future. try it in a casino or a game with strangers and you will find that you would not be allowed to do it. i'm not looking for you to say that i'm right, i could care less about that. it was simply advice and you can either accept it or disregard it.

Alright, I understand where you are coming from and you are right. I never really thought of it as signaling.
