Anyone got a set of James Bond chips?

Posted Sun Sep 05, 2004 12:48 pm GMT by leetpants
I got me some samples of them, and i really like the casino quality look of them.

I also really like the 'rough' edges so they dont slip like alot of the composite chips do.

Anyone have a set of these? And are they worth it?

Also anyone got a pic of a certain value stacked? I'd like to see the edge spots.

Thanks!

Which ones? The ones made by Paulson are great, the ones made by blue chip are WAY over-priced and not worth it. The Paulson Bond chips have a smaller center and the Tophat & Cane design.

ash =o)

I got a sample of the Blue Chip JB Chips and wasn't real impressed. I prefer this style of chip (more traditional) but the Blue Chips were very poorly done. Not one single label was centered and when the edge spots were added, paint (I assume paint but I don't know what it is) was dripped on other places of the chips. Very sloppy.

If the Pauslon's were actually made with care, then maybe I could justify the price. But the Blue Chip's version just looked sloppy and made with about zero pride.

If you only care how they look in stacks, then you should be fine. But I am too anal and want my chips to be sharp and clean. Blue Chips are not the answer for me.

I like the ones after the Paulson only because i like the larger center.

You dont think it would be a good idea to get the newer ones?

Should i just get some suited ones instead? Thanks,

If you like them then obviously you should get them. I personally feel that they are not worth the asking price. And let me tell you, when I saw the pictures of these online, I just had to have them. I just absolutely fell in love with them...that is until I got my sample.

Here is how I see it...again, they are done in a very sloppy manner. And they have a very chalky texture that makes it difficult (for me anyway) to do simple chip tricks like a riffle. For 500 JB chips, you will spend at least $420 if not more depending on where you buy them. For $100 or so more you could get a 500 piece set of custom chips that have the logos and colors that you want. Seems like a no brainer for me. But that is my opinion. Again...I wanted to like these chips in such a bad way. In fact, my girlfriend offered to buy me a set for xmas. Imagine that, a free 500 set of poker chips!!! But I can't justify the purchase for these chips. Even she told me that she wouldn't pay for them after seeing the sample.

Stinks to, because when I look at the sample stacked on my desk, then look so pretty. But as soon as I pick them up and look at the lack of attention to detail, then I remember why I won't buy them.

Don't get me wrong, if they came down in price from .85 to around .50 a chip, then I would pick some up. But right now they are just asking too much for them.

I've got a large set of them... AND LOVE THEM!!! Great sound and feel, and they just get better the more you play with them!

I could be wrong, but I believe the pokerstars invitational are playing with "Blue Chips."

I do love the sound too. and the more I play with the sample...the better they feel. But still sloppy with the labels, etc. I would be happy if I had a set. just not if I paid for them.

I also have a mixed set (some Paulson and some Blue chip). If you can afford to spend a cool grand for a set of 500...then go with the Paulson chips. I however, don't have that much to spend on poker chips so I went with the Blue Chip version and I am happy. Would be happier with a full set of Paulson chips but as far as that goes, I would also rather be driving a Ferrari to work every day. If you do buy a set from Blue CHip, the $25 chips are rather dull in color. I reccomend oiling them. It will bring out the color (I use olive oil). It makes a huge difference!

I would just go for the top end chips. Instead of sitting there with doubt and wishing you got something better, JUST DO IT!

You will save yourself time and money and be the envy of your friends and people on this forum! Wink

I have a set of these chips and am very happy with them. I do not like the $1 and $5 chips from this line though (I use 100 and 500 instead.) Everyone I have played with comments positively on them. I have gotten them from two different vendors and there is a difference. The first 50 I got have slick inlays and the other 570 have texture across the entire face of the chip (the coloring is slightly different as well.) The vendor I got the 570 chips from prices them at .79 a chip, wich is a lot less than I can find anywhere else. I won't post the vendor's name here so as not to be accused of spamming. If anyone wants to know, contact me. For the price, they were perfect for me. They are a thousand times better than the 11.5 gram suited and dice chips I used to use, but not quite as god as Paulson or even Chipco ceramics. If you get a set, I don't think you would be disappointed. Always get samples before buying.

Hmmmm... I got mine from two different vendors as well. Never noticed any differences, I'll have to look at that. Still love these chips. :D
